So many people prefer the flowers shot in the outdoors in the natural light and in it's natural setting.  I thought I'd give it a shot but I failed badly.  I need to know what you like and what you don't like so that I can make changes to my next attempt.  I did have this image in the voting pool but I deleted it as it barely rated a 6.  Thanking you in advance for your time to respond to my critique request.

I don't know what the majority likes but I like bright crisp images,,

Flowers I have found, after taking thousands of images each individual flower as well as each individual color, needs it's own special attention..
that is just my own experience.

I take each flower/color and have to find it's own special light that makes it shine..so I take pics at practically every time during the day in as many different positions as possible..

Red is very difficult, I have only had my imperial red tulips to practice on and this is my first flowering season with my new camera so I have much yet to learn.

It is important to have an interesting bkrnd,,and at the right exposure..and much of this advice comes from those much better than I ... I would suggest you pick a bloom and try at all times during the day even with the sun behind the bloom, this works nicely on some.. So you can find what works best with it.
Hope that helps..

Thank you so much Tonka, for your time.  You are telling me how to best photograph flowers. I didn't make it clear in my post but what I really want to know is what can I do to  "this photo" to make it at least a 7.

Geez, I guess I cannot interpret posts properly at all anymore

" I need to know what you like and what you don't like so that I can make changes to my next attempt."

I thought you had meant at your next attempt shooting them..Sorry, perhaps someone with wayy more experience can help you , I am afraid I cannot.

Sorry Tonka.  I really should take time to proof read to catch my grammatical errors; I understand that these errors can be very irritating.  I regret that you won't be able to critique this photo for me; I was in hopes that you would.

Well, I just am not a wiz in PS so for improvements , I just cant advise here.

As far as what I see in this pic..to me it looks just a little out of focus..My eye is naturally attracted to the pistol/stamen area where generally I like to see a lot of detail in at least one of several blooms..

The lighting here to me just seems underexposed..very ruddy looking...I know there are many photos in which this is the style the photog intends but it does not usually, do as much for me as lighting which clearly gives attention to the blooms with clarity..The bknd here mostly being dark also, imo , contributes even more to this issue..
But I do like the green highlights , on both sides would have been nice...The comp. is not too bad but for two blooms, I felt it should have been a little tighter in the right bottom corner.. which would better balance it in my eye..But that is just how I look at it and my own personal taste..

I would really like if someone could critique this photo too.  It scored very badly while in the voting pool.  I really need to understand what my problems are with these images.  Tonka said that reds are difficult to shoot, perhaps I should stay away from the red ones.  Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks, Tonka.  I will use this information to try to shoot a 7 the next time.  Rather than getting better with experience, I think that I must be getting worse.  Perhaps, I need to go back to school.
