DB,,,yes I must agree...what a very nice post and I think that echos many feelings amongst the members here...for the most part... ... Well doneuh oh...looks like a bump for a suggestion of "being able to ask your own question along with the comment request"...so you can say...."so and so, I see that you voted a 5...could you please tell me where I could improve? "... Or " So and so, I have been getting 4 and 5 on this piccie...I think it may be the light and since you are so great at shots with low light, could you tell me if it is your opinion that this is the case?".. my two cents

YES Tonka!!!!!!
, making a statement, or asking a question when submitting a request for a comment would be GREAT... I'd also like to see more people list their photographic tool in their profiles... (Camera, lenses, software).....
just a thought,

| OK. It's been good to see the replies to what I thought would be a rather meaningless thread. I have gained a good insight. I today replied to all of the ppl that had asked me for a comment. I was honest. As you guys have said I did'nt have to do it but I did. I don't care if someone has won this award or that, when I casted my vote I had no idea of any award a certain shot had already achieved. I just put my vote in plain and simple. I do note that the only ppl to ask me for a comment where those that I voted less for. I now know that most of them had won awards for their shot which is fine, but I don't care about that, I was just casting a vote IMHO. The shots were flowing by whilst I voted and if I thought someones was better than someone elses I voted higher? Makes perfect sense to me.... So I did some detective work. One particular member had taken an attitude/offence to negative comments about his image. I must say I agreed with the others who did'nt like it. It had won awards (I don't know why). So I had a choice, do I play the game and either not comment or do I put my tail between my legs, shy away and say nothing? Sorry guys not my way. I go for it and reply to his request.... he asked me for the comment so he gets it. If he does'nt like it then don't ask me for it in the first place. I'm only a newbie here but not a newbie of photog sites. I call a spade a spade and will do so BUT only if asked. I will always maintain a solid level of etiquette and honesty. Sooo funny. This guy (nameless for the moment) has some issues............watch my scores go down from now on. I know he will have to get me back, pathetic really.

| I applaud the the honesty and integrity and to call it the way you see it...It is my policy as well... Though, my personal opinion is this...Remember, I am still new at photography and do not profess to know much though I am a supreme being jk...(forum status).. My advocacy towards receiving one's honest opinion CONSTRUCTIVELY will remain...now the photog may disagree and I suppose that is between the commentor and commentee but ...I have thought of how I might react if my comments were received with negativity... This is what I feel I would do... If it continued and our personalities/opinions were of such opposites that they coud not be given or received in a positive manner..Well then I would state that perhaps the photog . did not want my honest opinion and if that be the case , please do not ask for it...as I will not continue to give them if they are not going to be received in the manner intended.. I also do sometimes take a step back and breathe when I receive some comments...I must respond, not react and must learn....if I still see no merit in the comment..that is a personal disagreement and I can respond positively and be thankful that they took the time to answer my request... But as far as voting on future images...that in my book has nothing to do with the personal issues. And it in no way would affect my voting on those future images..as well it shouldnt because I do not know who's images are who's..yes sometimes I can tell by the model or location or subject but this is not most of the time... Just my thoughts on it ..

Why should someone like thing, an honest-voting newcomer to DA, be required to pay a price in the scores his images will receive from the unnamed issues guy? Why must comments be coupled to votes? How much is the tiny bit of "education" worth to the few who pursue it through RfC? How much retaliation must the rest of us suffer before some people can say "enough"? Can't we try to wean ourselves away from RfC with all it's negatives, and eventually abandon it?

| Okay..I did bring this up in theother thread but ,,,The point I am trying to get you to see is this.... I understand what you are saying...You do not have to pay all you have to do is "ignore request"..there is no paying... I understand these situations are a negative and a pain..but see here the real crux of the matter is this... This does not happen with everyone here ..nor do I think the majority...nor do I think often... Okay so take everyone on one side of the fence and move them to the other side...or vice/versa... win ...lose..... Or remove the fence....win..win. And nor do I think it healthy for DA either if every newcomer is given such negative and INMHO will, no offense but judgementally negative aspects enshrouding all members as a whole...Yes there are issues...there always will be,,,I have read other forum posts at other sites you know...everywhere there is petty bickering about low scores....and petty low scores so I do not believe that it is worse here than anywhere else..the only difference is...they dont get a name to address the person directly..and nor do they always get one here....but still...foul, angry posts in other forums demanding to know who gave them a lowball vote is not uncommon. Furthermore I am sure that half of those people would rethink their reaction if given a reason from an honest voter and would not be quite so quick to judge an intention...the next time. And sit back and say..."geeesh I didnt even see that flaw ....*smack the head* big...DUH!* Just my perception of this whole thing.

I think thing figured out for himself what the negatives are. Also notice that he said that he has experience at other photo sites.
