| It may sound like a stupid question but is there any particular reason/s that someone would request ME to comment on their photo? Why would they choose me?

Can I answer your question with a question, are you masked or unmasked? There can be several reasons for a comment request. Most of us because we like to know what we can do to improve our skills. Some ask because they want justification for the score they have been given on a picture. Some just like to know what your thoughts were on the particular picture. JMHO.

| Sure Kiwi.....I don't know if I'm masked or unmasked? I guess I'm just the default setting. So ppl can see the scores you left them huh? How do you do this? Maybe it involes becoming a paying member....thats cool if it's the case. Just making sure of what I'm getting myself into here.

thing, yes, you need to be a paying member to view the details of votes cast; that is there individual vote details, voters weight, name, or unmasked, time and date of vote, a score of that vote.....
ok, why do people ask for a request? this has been covered above... but, let me say, that when i was a newcommer, i spent too much time worrying about responding to requests... i now realize that if you simple explain what you liked or didnot like about the photo, explain anything that you might have done differently to improve the photo, (if you dont have the expertise to suggest HOW to make the pic better; dont worry!)... Remember, your vote is a reflection of YOUR opinion.... it is just your opinion.... you response may be a great aid to some, and for some it will not... but, many here are eager to learn, so your responses can be of great value....
just a thought,

It may sound like a stupid question but is there any particular reason/s that someone would request ME to comment on their photo? Why would they choose me? They choose you because you voted on their image, and probably because you gave it a vote lower than they thought it deserved. You don't have to respond if you don't want to.

Oh Will come on now..must you always be so pessimistic ..If it is a lower vote, MANY times the photog will want to know what you saw that they could improve on . We don't see the faults in our images many times. Also if everyone were to welcome the comment request and have a positive attitude....I for one would be requesting much more for higher votes so that I would get feedback on the positive aspects of my image.

i ask tonka for comments because she is a supreme being.... all-knowing...
i ask higher weight members because their weight is an indication that they might know something that might help me....
i ask beginners photographers because they vote by they speak of their general impression of the photograph...
i ask richard because he will tell me what he likes and does not like, regardless of his vote, high or low, and offer suggestions on how to improve....
i ask paula because she has an eye for a "clean and flawless" image and will tell me what i missed.... (i am blind....)...
i ask WE because he will tell me in "shorthand" what he thinks....
i ask some because i like to know what a "self-proclaimed professional" thinks....
on comment requests.... i have learned to look more carefully at composition, distractions, color, contrast, interest, sharpness, editing artifacts, lighting, technique...............
i have much to learn.... i have learned alot... i have worked to improve... and i thank those who reply with their honest thoughts....
lastly.... a vote is a comment in itself.... go vote,
daniel
