Okay, my opinion..which I so freely give

Nice pic...

Can you lighten dad's hair a little?..other than that my only thought on this was a much tighter crop, putting their faces at center attention rather than the overtaking shirt from dad..I kinda put my hands over a major part of the pic showing only part of the arm and I thought "hey that might be nice"..

well just my thoughts on it for what their worth..

Yeah, I was on the fence about the dad's hair. I did consider lightening it up a bit. As far as the center placement, I'm not sure about that one. The rule of thirds also apllies to portraits as well. I wished the father took his shirt off but he was a bit shy. I think it would have worked better than the white T-shirt. Thanks for your thoughts.

some rules are meant to be broken lol..

but I did not mean any crop on the right..the faces would still be offcenter and the Kiss would fall into the rule of thirds....I think....you are welcome

Yep, I completely agree. I'm actually not a big stickler for the rule of thirds for portraits, more for landscapes. I do think you may have a point about a tighter crop. I might try that and see how that turns out. Thanks again.

The first thing that strikes me about this shot is the inconsistent color of the background.  It's fine for most of the picture but near the top it fades to a darker shade and loses separation from the subject at the top of the father's head.  An additional light to brighten the background a bit would be an improvement.  Exposure could be a little less to bring out more detail in the whites of the shirts on both father and child, they look almost blown out to me.  And the light on the side of the father's face just to the front of his ear is a tad toward harsh.  I like the composure, it seems well balanced to me.  Maybe some more room on the left hand side to let the bg come all the way down to the bottom would work too.  Even with those minor flaws the photo speaks of the father's love/pride/excitement for this new child.

Oh, very heart warming!!! I must say it's the first photo I've seen with daddy and baby... usually it's always the mom. So for that difference, I really like it!!!  If I may offer my teeny weeny opinion as well.... I too, find the white shirts a little off key against the dark BG. If it were my image, I might try to get a closer crop of the father's kiss, as that seems to be the story in this photo... and it would allow the expressions to be seen...
