Okay, everyone...I feel like I am getting stuck..so..

I was wondering if I could post a pic for critique..

I would like to say what I think about this photo and then I would like for you all to tell me what you think about what I think and then perhaps what improvements could be made if I dont get it already about what you thought about what I think.. lol...Ready?

Okay, I think this is a fine pic. thats it.  no just kidding lol...Okay  I do think this is a fine pic and it is doing well..but I would like more WOWS in my collection..  I think that the DOF is good here, and the bk color is great though there is just a wee distraction on left..I think though, that this is what I try to work with ,,Natural surroundings and I like to keep some of these things in..I also think that the comp. is great Though  I think some might feel that it is not quite the thirds rule however...I also think that my lighting and detail in the white petals should be a stronger focal point to offshoot the slight third ummm "offset".  I think it is also a lovely backdrop for this tiny moth and that the title is very befitting of this capture.  Now have you had enough of what I think?

Please do tell me what you think now. Waiting

Okay Cherie, if it were my pic i would crop half inch of the top, right and bottom sides. And probably a good inch of the left side to get ride of distractions, as that is where my eye keeps getting drawn to. I feel the moth and centre of flower should have more attention in the photo.

As it stands i think it's a very good photo. JMHO is all.

Hi Tonka,

I like the background too and I do not think that the left part has a distraction just because you can see some details. I think a crop closer to the rule of thirds does help the composition. Here would be my example. I hope you are ok with this. I can not describe it so good how to crop, so I think seeing is better.

I used the format 7x5. It puts the center of the flower and moth not exactly in the crosspoints but very close. What do you think?

Well thanks Kiwi and O ..

I knew as I was cropping what the consensus might be..but I was also afraid of cropping too much on this as it was taken with my kodak in jpeg. and I didnt want to lose too much quality. So with that said..I do like  your crop O, and this is where I usually have a hard time..Cause I really like the browns in the background and did not want to lose too much of that either.. Oh and i do not mind that at all,,visual is good

I also like to push the rules lol .. I may just crop this a bit more and see how it does but I am wondering how much the rules play versus personal taste..Trying to figure out what makes the difference between 7 and 10....  I hope I get more opinions on this too..  and just wondering what good points stick out and which bad points stick out...aside from the "general rules"..  Thanks again you two for your time, I sure appreciate it ....and in advance to any others.

Thanks again!  Here is what I think ,,,see if you agree...

while both of those versions are nice (and thank you again)...I think that those minor crops take some away from the depth ...if you will...

I feel that the first pic shows the blooms height off the ground...minute little detail I know but I think it adds another element to a photo.. I have been noticing lately while voting, the "depth" in photos..I have been seeing many very very nice examples of this... My flower here, looks like it is above the bkrnd and hanging outward over the ground but in the cropped photos it looks as though it is flush with the bkrnd..

Do you agree?..

I understand your point about the depth. But in my opinion all of the blank space (bg) takes attention away from the subject and makes the image look unbalanced. JMO
I don't know... if you want your subject to be the DOF maybe you should crop out more of the flower.

Personally, I do like the depth but I just wanted more opinions about how others view pics ...presently this one..it also gives me an idea of how other pics are viewed too..

I know it comes down to personal preference in some cases but in others well, you have to appeal to the masses.  Aside from the crop issue here, I need to know if there were any other tech. or aesthetic issues with this pic.

I believe it is a solid one and if there are no other tech. issues with it then it boils down to the fact that it is just one of those ones that just doesnt move the masses right?..I think... Moths arent the biggest , brightest , most interesting creatures I suppose lol...

Thanks tons.
