In an effort to simplify the contest rules, I have added a new metric for computing the signature winners. This new value represents the number of unique signature votes an image has received. Starting tomorrow, all signature images will be selected using this value instead of the combined 'raw votes' value.
In order to not pull the rug out from under everyone, the value of the 'raw votes' field has been copied into this new field, since this was the data that was being used until today. So, in short, the only change is to look at this value when selecting the signature winners instead of the count of all votes (standard and signature).
As a result, the 'total of signature votes' requirement has gone away, making the contest rules much easier to understand.

For a more visual idea of what has happened, imagine a fork in the road. Before today, there was one value for both types of awards, now there is a split. Both measures start equally, but will differ over time.

Just a thought -
Since only RAW Signature Votes are now used for Signature Award qualification do you think we need to revisit the qualifing totals. At 120 raw votes, the monthly award will require over 50% of the Signature Voters to cast votes to qualify any image. The annual award will require over 70% voting participation to reach 150 qualifing votes (based on ~210 sig members / 7.5% of 2800 site members). The values may be difficult to reach.
While typically Signature Voters are more active voters, having these RAW votes coming from a much smaller population (Signautre voters = 1/13 the entire member ship) might yield a very small (if any) pool of qualifiers for these higher level awards over time. Just food for thought. WE

I did consider that, but then thought there might be complaints about copying over the raw votes, then changing the qualification levels. I would like for them to be equal i.e. 15 raw for standard and 15 signature raw for signature, but I didn't want to make both changes at the same time to allow for some discussion.
I will start a new thread tomorrow (or feel free to do so sooner) regarding this topic.
