Would it be possible to post some monitor calibration cards on DA so people can see how far their monitors are off gamma and color?
Sometimes I see images that make me want to recalibrate my monitor only to discover that there is nothing wrong with it.

I have felt the same way at times. I'm curious Kamikaze, if you personally use a devise or the one that comes with your computer?

I use a calibrating device for both monitor and printer, for monitor I use a datacolor Spyder 3 PRO, which is pretty good and quite inexpensive an the compatible datacolor printer PRO.
Additionally I run my scanners with a gray card (or better said : the flatbed scanner with a gray card, the drum and film scanner with a normed gray slide) so the whole line is calibrated.

| Wow, sounds like you are well set. I use the gretamacbeth eye-one to calibrate my display. I bought that one because I was a student and they gave a significant discount. I have found that a lot of people think the devise is not necessary but when I first got it my display had been first calibrated with the one installed on my mac and the devise did produce a change. It comes with a before and after image so you can see the difference. What brand printer and flatbed scanner do you have? Mine are both Epson. I got the printer for Christmas and it hasn't been working out well but after research we discovered it was a problem with the driver working with the Mac OS X Leopard. My husband just went to the Epson site today though, and they have a newer driver now that should work.

For photos I have a Kodak dye sublimation printer, for the normal stuff I use a HP. My film scanner is a Nikon and my drum scanner a Linotype-Hell the flatbed is made by Agfa,

I can't take credit for this link but one of my favorite bird/landscape photographers posted this in an earlier forum. I think it will help: Is your system ICC Version 4 ready? http://www.color.org/version4html.xalter

It helps to see if you can work in that color space (yes my system can..) but it does not help against color and gamma shifts. Color and gamma shifts depend on too many factors such as manufacturing tolerances, age of the monitor, bugs in the drivers and so on, that is why individual calibration is so important.
The tinman gallery, for example has a chart to calibrate your monitor gamma, there is a similar system to adjust the color deviation that could be put on a page.

I wanted to do it before I added the rest of what I learned from the previous forum: If you use firefox you can adjust the color management. The following link tells you how: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/content_page.asp?cid=7-9311-9478 If you do not have the latest version of firefox it will have you update it first.
It also made kamakazes link work better for me too
