| Ken, This is a normal procedure how Eric did this. See it like a "free after rebate". When you buy something somewhere with a coupon and it becomes free, you still have to go through the complete checkout procedure. I also believe that Goggle Checkout is save. Eric, Thank you for the free month of subscription.

The other main reason I did this in the form of a coupon is to allow anyone to use it with any subscription type. So, if a person would prefer to buy an annual and take 3.50 off, they can do so.

Ken...
I totally get what you are saying and that is your perogative (sp?) but I think you are reading too much into it. Like O said...just think of it as a rebate! And if Eric does get a little somethin' somethin' on the side (which probably is miniscule)...it helps keep this fantastic website affloat!
It's all good!!!

Eric, I agree that it makes sense to do it that way for those who want to subscribe or who want to extend their subscription for more than the one month.
But it is not necessary to go through a check out for those of us who just want the one month. This includes subscribers, like myself, who want to add the 1 month to our subscription, or non-subscribers who will test the benefits of being a subscriber and then decide whether to subscribe. It is not necessary for these members to go through check out.
oiboy, this is not a rebate. Nor is it, as was indicated in the message from Eric, a gift with no strings attached.
ScottySue, it is not that I am reading too much into it, but that I apparently didn't read enough into Eric's message. When I read his message I thought he said he was giving us a gift with no strings attached and that by clicking on the link on the home page we could claim our gift.

When you apply the coupon, the balance should show: $0.00. If it still shows $3.50 it did not apply correctly. If this happens to anyone, just let me know and I can cancel the transaction.
Eric
When I tried to click "Apply" (the coupon) the
Apply button would not work so I proceeded on with the transaction in the hope that it processed correctly. If you see a $3.50 transaction from
John Moses that is me (my middle name is Nicholas) and it did not work correctly for whatever reason.

If you PM your CID # to me, I will add an extra month to your account manually.
Aside from the reasoning mentioned previously, the only ulterior motive I have with the coupon is to gain some insight into how many are redeemed. If very few are used, it tells me that either people do not like the new payment system or they do not read / get email from the site.
There is no incentive from Google for processing these $0 transactions through their systems. I do understand your point as I have dealt with many questionable companies in the past (as we all have). If I wanted to run a slimy business however, I would set the subscriptions to auto-renew, send regular promotional emails full of ads, trade contact information with 'advertising partners’, etc.
My intentions with this coupon are truly well meant. I tried to be as flexible as I could with this by allowing all members (even if you have already purchased a subscription) take advantage of this and allow you to use it for any purchase on the site, including image uploads.
