I would like some advise on purchasing a new camera. I have only $300.00 to spend.  Which is a better camera.....Sony Powershot SX100IS....Kodak Easyshare...Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18K...Canon Powershot.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks so much.....Sandy

Sandra, I've always been a person with big dreams, but a small budget.  For my multi-interests, wildlife, landscape, nature, people on the street, rodeos, horse shows, dog shows, sports, etc., I've been real happy with my Canon Powershot S3 IS.  My DA awards have come from 15 different categories, so I think that proves just how versatile the camera is.  It has a good 12x zoom and Image Stabilization.  I've tried the Panasonic FZ18 and the Pentax K100 (DSLR) and neither took as good photos as the Canon.  **The only shortcoming I've found is that it is not good in low light situations.

.

What I think would be a perfect combination is a Canon DSLR and my grab-and-go S3 IS.  For the time being, I will be very happy with the Powershot.  You can probably buy one on the Internet (not Broadway Photo) for less than $300.  I paid $274.

.

Happy Shopping

Canon PowerShot S3 IS highest rated photos on DPChallenge. (You can browse to see all the images entered by this camera.)

Canon PowerShot S3 IS images at PhotoSig. (You can sort to find the highest ranked images.)

Reviewing the work of others by camera is the way I selected my camera.

Sorry, I don't track the Nikon line. But, I've always felt that Nikon makes good cameras and offers fine "glass".
