to vent...

The challenges are slightly frustrating to me and yes, even when I have a picture entered, I vote. But I vote fairly. Judging first by the title and specifications of the category and then looking technically at the image, etc...

I have been able to monitor my results in the colours of nature challenge...and I am a bit upset...I have a 4.33 score (after three votes) on an image that is nothing but nature and it is in focus, the lighting is good, etc...

Here's what I propose...because I think this is what is happening...anybody who has entered an image in the challenge SHOULD NOT be allowed to vote. I will not be voting in them anymore if I have an image in the category. That way, no accusations can be made that I am scoring lower to elevate my own image.

Do I have to be on the DAGC to propose this or can somebody do it for me??? Let me know!

Thanks

Susan

one more thing...I don't think my image is worthy of the 10s, but I don't think it is worthy of 4s either. Just had to say that! I am not that conceited!

Anyone can make a proposal Znoozie hon, but the DAGC , I think is not accepting proposals at this time..

I sincerely hope there is no bad behavior going on in the challenges or I shall be very upset...

I do like voting in the challenges but I would support this motion..

However, maybe we need to cut back on the number of votes too because I think many of the entrants are the voters and yes I think 50 votes is taking too long perhaps...I still think it is a proper amount of votes to get but maybe we need to examine the challenges once again at this time...

that is just my opinion though..

Images rating a 5 or below in the last four challenges:

Prettiest eyes 19/35
Abandoned: 14/35
Rivers 14/35
Back in the day 15/35

Either people are entering really awful photographs in the challenges which for most of them that is not true, or they are being deliberately voted down. Not all, but most of those photographs would receive higher votes in the regular category contests.

Not sure what to do about it but I agree there is an issue.

I expect a higher degree of variability in a challenge than in a regular contest since the focus is narrower and the category is much more important. I find myself using a different range when voting on challenges. Is it right? I don't know, but at the end of the day, the images I have rated are placed well in relation to each other.
Are games being played? Perhaps, but if you think about it it's a really sick game they are playing since there is absolutely nothing to gain.

For the record, I don't vote in challenges that I participate in on moral grounds.

I will try and remember to not vote on challenges I enter as well...I just don't think about my entry when I have voted in the past...
But I have to say I have seen all qualities in the challenges, my votes have ranged from 4 to 9 usually....I think that since there are only so many slots, the chances of seeing images in the lower ranges of the scale is a bit more than one would see in the regular contest...jmo..

I don't enter challenges anymore so I vote on every single one. Although some images are of good quality and deserving of a high vote, I feel that, per challenge, the majority of images are average or below average. My irritation with people entering images which don't at all belong or relate to the challenge is really reaching high levels. I always try to keep a wide perspective and try to think how the image could possibly fit into the challenge but some of them, well they just don't fit. Also people enterring the same single image to every challenge. This is where I so hope we'll get a feature where we can leave comments. I guess my point will be that they are taking up entry slots of images which do belong in the challenge.

Sorry, didn't have a good night's rest, and my tripod snapped. Neatly, in two halves. Totally busted. That's what you get when you buy "specials". And I was planning on testing out my new cam in a studio setting today. Won't be doing any voting with this mood I'm in.

I think the challenges are really good for people who are new here. It gives them a chance to enter a fun challenge that is sometimes a lot more relaxed than the category voting. At least that is how I felt in the beginning. As time goes on the new wears off and the knowledge gained from the sight makes entering the challenges really frustrating. Voting on them is harder. I want two little buttons on the page 'wrong category' and 'Why did you bother us with that?'.

I agree with limiting the voting in the category you enter, but then again the challenges can sometimes be there for weeks waiting for that final vote and it is hard to get people interested in voting for the challenges.

The newbie factor could also be one of the reasons the votes there are also low. It usually is the first place to go to learn how to vote here and it is less daunting because there are no comment requests if you vote low on something.
