For me so far my most challenging colors in my garden are white and "bleeding heart" red. Do you have photoshop? If so I know of a quick and easy way to make your colors pop in many cases.
Do you know which Canon you want? My brother just bought his first DSLR and it is a Canon.

I have weird luck, the Stimulus Payment checks that almost everyone else already received gets to me last because I am last on the list, so this week I get it, and it is when my camera breaks down. Perfect timing.
I am trying a new program right now. Corel PhotoImpact X3 to see if I want to buy it. PSP is another on the list that I am considering but it costs more. Right now I have been switching between two editing programs depending on what I want to do to the photo Picassa and Photostudio. They were alright until I started becoming more involved with the quality of what I was photographing. I think I have outgrown them.
The camera I really want and the camera I will get are probably two different things. I want a Canon Rebel XT. It is on the top of my list but if I find something comparable in quality for less, I will probably buy it.

1. Photoshop Elements is a leaner, less expensive version of Photoshop and it has way more than I need or know how to use. Check it out.
2. I have a Rebel XT and it is a great camera. Good choice, and I bet, since they have the XTi now, that you could find a good price on an XT these days. I have 2 lenses the 18-55mm cane with the camera, and the 75-300, which I use a lot.
Try Ebay.

Thank you Tocky,
I will check out the program and I have been watching e-bay. The cameras are less expensive and come with lenses and some with tri-pods. My goal is to go to the store and check out how they feel in my hands first then I will order.

They are all heavier than the point and shoot cameras, and the XT is no exception, but it was less bulky than many others when I was shopping. The man who owned the camera store was the one who suggested the XT for me, it was (and is) my first DSLR. There are so many features that I am not even using yet.

| Were I to make a budget purchase of editing software I would go with Paint Shop Pro Photo X2, it has most of the features of Photoshop and some of those functions are better implemented than photoshop. PSPx2 is now $20 off. From a functional standpoint GIMP, a free program, is very good but difficult to learn. My youngest daughter prefers it to Photoshop. It seems to fit her thought processes better. To each their own.

Can you change to lab mode in elements? You would need to be able to change that. In PS you go to image>mode>lab It is usually set to RGB
After reading you use elements and have the camera and lenses you have, I have a favor to ask and a link to share. I'll pm you later..... I haven't even had my morning cup of coffee yet. I have been getting a the habit of staying up until 4 am.
