I was wondering if it is better to take a photo using the black and white setting on the camera or to take the photo in color and then convert it to black and white with an editing program, such as photoshop or paint shop pro?

Wow! That's a great question. It depends if you are capturing images in JPG format or RAW format. If JPG, then you are better off using your b&w setting. If RAW format, then you have the flexibility to monochrome mix later. Thanks for asking such a sophisticated question. You're on the right track!

I was thinking that question yesterday and was going to put it in today and I was beaten to it!

Thanks for asking...and Richard, thanks for the answer!

I was thinking about that a couple of days ago, and decided for myself that, because I'm not such a serious photographer that the difference in my images when I use RAW or JPG matters, I'll just take pics in color to make sure that I don't lose the color of a picture right at the spot. It just so happens that at times you do not get what you expect... better safe than sorry. hmmm, I think I'm gonna go add that into "Idiom of the Day".
