| I have seen someamazin g shots of the moon, how do you do it? I am not expecting to get some great shot the first time out, I would be so happy with one that didn't have the moon blown out. I heard I needed at least a 200mm lens, so I went and got a 70-300mm, I am using a Olympus E-500, I have tried the shots using different settings on the camera, I always have it on the tripod, of course. But everytime I take the shot I am sadly disappointed. Can anyone give this stumped girl so advise? Thanks!

Jackie (5/21/2008) I have seen someamazin g shots of the moon, how do you do it? I am not expecting to get some great shot the first time out, I would be so happy with one that didn't have the moon blown out. I heard I needed at least a 200mm lens, so I went and got a 70-300mm, I am using a Olympus E-500, I have tried the shots using different settings on the camera, I always have it on the tripod, of course. But everytime I take the shot I am sadly disappointed. Can anyone give this stumped girl so advise? Thanks! Hi Jackie ,I use a point & shoot with good results for a point & shoot .I was told to use the moon caculator to start , and depending on the brightness of the moon tweek your expousre as needed, that worked well for the lunar eclipse . Also full moon is the hardest or so I was told & the easiest way of getting a good full moon shot is to take one early in the morning rather than the riasing moon ( I was told this by a retired pro . and it works for me . Hope it helps you get the results you are looking for , sorry I do not have the clickable link . this site will tell you every day what settings to start off with .The Shaytech Moon Exposure Calculator

Hey, snap. Are you misspelling on purpose? And, if yes, what is your motivation?
The moon moves very rapidly across the sky. It's a very difficult task to correctly expose the moon in a dark sky, while keeping the shutter speed fast enough to get sharp details. It's almost impossible without a telescope equatorial mount, which moves with the earth's rotation. The article linked below suggests a 1200mm lens. That's probably why I'm frustrated. The great images of the moon are telescopic.

Your spelling errors are so numerous and ridiculous, it's almost like you're creating them on purpose. It seems to be rude behavior on your part towards those who read your comments.

Your spelling errors are so numerous and ridiculous, it's almost like you're creating them on purpose. It seems to be rude behavior on your part towards those who read your comments. I would like to advise all readers that find my posts to be as described above to please not read them as it may result in you making rude comments yourself and scaring others from posting in the forum ,you will note that out of the 4,000 + members not many post here ,this I believe is one very good reason for that .Spelling errors may be a pet peeve to some ,but a rude reply like this is disheartening to most . A spelling error is an error and tolerated by most friendly people & even made by most from time to time ,comments like the above is just plain rude and made with intent , it does not reflect well on anyone who posts in such a arrogant manner it is tacky no matter how you spell it . I will not be responding to any more rude attacks ,most members can see them for what they are ,or have been the brunt of them for one reason or another so understand and stay out of this area of DA .

| Not to take sides with Richard but I too find them to be a bit difficult at times to read. Interesting that this one is spot on. I appreciate it.
