and sometimes, I am confused with underexposure...is something I think that is too dark automatically an underexposed image?
It is not necessarily an underexposed image if the image is too dark to you. It depends on what your criterias are for an image to be thought of as too dark. Sometimes some people confuse low key with underexposure.
If you are familiar with histograms you will see the left side of the histogram graph hitting the edge when it is underexposed. It will mean that the darkest areas of the photo are so dark that they have no detail. With a low key image the graph will show many pixels in the shadows but they don't hit the edge. Even the blackest part of an image shows detail. Like if you were looking at a black leather couch you wouldn't want to loose all detail as is the case in under exposed images. You would want to see the texture in the leather which if seen would indicate a properly exposed image.
