Some of you know I've been wanting to upgrade my camera for a long time now.
Well, I worked all night last night (and have to go in again in a little while) but my husband and I took the drive to Orlando this morning after I got out of the hospital and I got my new D300 out of layaway I also got a new 70-300mm lens so that will get me a little bit closer than my previous 200mm capability
Richard reminded me that I will go through a slump with a new camera - it's been so long since I've had one I had forgotten. But I am very excited! I will have a huge learning curve jumping from the d70s to the d300 but I have my 420-something page manual and I plan to do a lot of reading over the next few days
It could be considered a little pitiful that I could get so excited about a 'thing' but I know most of you understand. It's all I've been able to think about for weeks and weeks

| I know exactly how you feel. I have got the Canon 450D on pre order. Some stores in the UK have it in already. But where I ordered it they are still awaiting stock. Can't wait. I have a wedding to do on 3rd May so want it asap so I can get used to it. . Good luck with the new kit and I hope it lives up to your expectations . Cheers . Ron

I don't know, Linda. It's got so many bells and whistles that I'm WAY more than intimidated at this point. - But, hey - I've got the rest of my life to figure it out

Congrats Leighann! I hope you are happy with the new camera. I held one a couple of weeks ago and was suprised to see how compact it is against the D200 and almost the 70s. Did you get the Nikon 70-300 with the VR? You'll be getting way in. Good luck!

Yes, Robert - that's the exact lens I bought. I live for the day I can afford a 600mm (only if I win the lotto!) - I got this one because it was affordable ($529). The man at the camera shop told me that, with the d300, the picture will be good enough to be able to crop the bird or animal out and make it look like I had a longer lens.
I took it to work with me last night with my manual and took a few shots of co-workers (none of the patients even had any flowers to shoot last night) and I was very, very excited and happy with the clarity and the color. I just took a shot of a red hibiscus out front and the color was true - I've never had luck shooting anything red with the d70s.
Just getting ready to head out the door to the local park to try it out I'm so happy and exited I can't hardly stand it
The lens makes it way heavier than what I'm used to but, the camera itself, while a little bigger than the d70s, seems significantly lighter weight. My neck is not going to like the weight of that lens though. Guess I'll be using the tripod more now

Congratulations Leighann. It is really exciting to get a new camera! As I have said before, SLRs need to come with a health warning, Severe injury may be caused to budgets when purchasing this camera!.
