Many votes are a good thing. We want to encourage voting! But, are too many speed votes from new members a concern to anyone else?

Just a casual look at the top four voters in the past 24 hours will show all four as being new members with less than one week of involvement. Collectively they have cast 6704 votes and received 300.

Is this a problem? I don't know. Seems like it's not sustainable. Since I've had a few off-the-wall comments from this type of member on my images, it seems like something is not quite right. But, I can't put my finger on it.

Maybe one of the mega-voting new members would help me understand why they are voting so much with few or zero images entered into the contest. Help me comprehend the intensive/compulsive behavior. I invite any or all to post some comments here. Or, anyone else for that matter

I have been promoting the site over the past week+ and this has caused a sharp rise in the number of new members, and most likely new voters.

You may notice it was not long ago that we were at 4,000 members and today we're at 4,263. Without promotion, the site adds an average of about 10 new members per day. Over the past 7 days we've added an average of 17.4 per day.

Not sure , but I know when I first join a site I like to view others work first to see what I would be compeating against ,the easiest way to do that is by voting on DA. That could be one reason for the amount of voting by new members . It does allow newbies a chance to get to know the quality of the images on DA . Some may be over doing it and perhaps there should be some sort of cap on how many votes one can cast ,as is now for a newbie it may look good to be listed as one of the top voters . Personaly I have never come across that list ,but to those who have is it even something that everyone needs to know or is it something that admin should be watching to avoid problems . I don't know just thinking , and that is as a newbie still , so I may be way off the mark .

Adding new members is absolutely a very good thing. But to what degree are they participating? Are they giving us photos to vote on? Are they challenging us to rise to a  higher level?

From the 'speedsters' I've had vote on my images lately, that's all they are doing is voting as fast as humanly possible........with few if any comments and the comments that are left, hardly make sense.  Because there are no images of theirs to view.....it's impossible to put these votes and comments in context.

WOW ,I just took a look ,IMO anything over 400 votes a day is a bit much ,for anyone . I try to get in 100 a day but don't always make that goal . Should there be a cap on how many votes one can cast in one day ? Would that help any ?

Linda, Thank you! This is exactly what I was saying in my post the other day. If they do not have any images posted we have no way to put their votes and comments (if they leave any) into context. I don't have any problem with people voting a lot as long as they vote fairly and try to give feedback/suggestions for improvement when they vote a 5 or 6. The problem I have is with those who don't post their own images so they can just low vote without any substantial reason until the cows come home and they don't have to worry about anyone doing the same to them.

It's been pointed out that unless a new member has won an award, or has archived images, there would be nothing to look at. That's understandable, as it stands. Is there a way to somehow rectify that? Seems like a 'rock and a hard place' situation.
