Just want a critique on whether this was the right angle or I captured the right setting with the sun in the background. Or just a general critique. Thanks

Mr H, it's hard to offer a good critique with the size of the image being small, but from what I can gather, the composition seems to work well. It fits in with the rule of thirds. The sun itself seems to be blown and I feel that it needs more dynamic range especially towards the darks at the bottom. This shot would have probably been improved by using a circ polarizer and a grad nd filter. The CP filter would have given you more vibrant color and the gnd filter would have evened out the exposure thus creating that dynamic range. Hope this helps.

yeah its very small..but i agree with above....it could use more dynamic range, and buy that i mean the shadows are very dark and the highlights are very light....a grad nd filter would work...editing in PS would work....composing it as an HDR shot work work...maybe even shooting it two or so stops down would work

that aside, the composition works well....you maybe could have got the sun at a slightly lower angle to see if that helps with the brightnes problem

Mr. H

I ditto the above comments. I also think that your horizon is leaning to the right. That could be fixed in PS. You could also try using Shadows/Highlights in PS to see if you could tone down the sun and bring more detail into the dark.
