The voting scale that Glynn posted is definitely subjective, as it is not how I view my voting.  For me, I RARELY give a vote of 10.  The image pretty much has to knock me off my feet to get a 10.  I generally vote from 5-9, having voted many fewer 9's than the rest of the scores.  I guess that is how I figure that 6's aren't that bad of a score. Mr. King, I don't consider a 6 to be a notch above the worst photos. I have already stated that I believe it to be above average.  My way of voting may be different from others on this website, but I do believe that it is fair.  I feel that I vote consistently, and if someone doubts my vote and I have a suggestion for improvement, I comment.  I do feel that a lot of the controversy in voting is that the scale is subjective to each individual voter.  No two voters cast votes in the exact same manner. I have just been following the scale that DA suggests, with anything about 5 being above average. I could be wrong, but I thought that that was the way in which we were to vote.

I doubt that. Again, there is a 10 point scale and you only use 4 values from the 10. How are you following the scale? One of the biggest issues here at DA is a lot of images good and bad fall into the 6-7 range precisely because of the voting scale you use. The fact of the matter is images here at DA range from terrible to excellent and that's why there is a range from 1-10 to use. You are not following the scale DA suggests whe you only utilize 5-9.

If I make FULL use of the scale, then I will be receiving more RFC's than I possible can reply to.  I haven't seen proof that anyone on the website makes full use of the 1-4 section of the scale. I vote with fairness in mind, and I think that a 6 is a decent vote. For those who are disappointed with it, they can send me an RFC with no comment or question and expect that all answer it. Just be glad that you have an average of 8 or 9 on each of your photos and that a peon weight like myself won't make a bit of difference.

Hey Prissylou

Bar from a few odd people - RFCs are primarily used to bully people into voting their next image higher.

Solid advice is to ignore them unless they come across as a "real request for input for improvement!" You'll gauge what is what in time.

Vote as YOU see fit and not according to site stats or anyone else's slant on what is a fair vote - too much of that goes on here!!

Have trust and faith in your own opinion - if an image floats your boat then great! Score it High - if it doesn't ......then don't!

There is NO REQUIREMENT to justify your vote - don't feel compelled to do so - especially as most will rubbish your opinion anyway. So basically...it's pointless!

As you progress with your membership you'll come to realise that there's a lot of "Currents" on DA!! They don't like the future telling them what's good and what's not!

Don't succumb to bullying tactics - you'll hate yourself for it if you do!

If you want the rainbow - you gotta put up with the rain.

A conscience is what hurts when all your other parts feel sooooo good!

Yep, there is a lot of bullying around here and mean spirited RFCs. You should read some of the doosies I've received lately.

SNIP doosies SNIP.

Okay, off the topic question, WHAT does that word mean around your parts of the world? In my language (Afrikaans) it is actually a very bad word. As in the ultimate swearword.

Jacky, downunder a "doosie" is something that happens that is really big, either positive or negative. For eg. Did you see that car accident?, that was a really "doosie".

Sorry about the hi-jacking
.
