Okay, I only vote on about 100 images per day. I could vote on more if I didn't have to stop on about 10% of the images to comment on unreadable text, like this....

So, to save everyone's time, especially mine, I'm posting this message here. I will no longer comment on unreadable text. I'll simply and systematically deduct 2 points from the score I'd otherwise give to the image if the text is unreadable. I encourage everyone else to do the same. Let's nip this in the bud!
Furthermore, I've seen one image submitted three times with red bg and red text. In other words, the text is invisible. I will always score images with invisible text a "1". I'm mad as @@@@ and I won't take it anymore!
This is not a threat! It's a promise. I'm in a foul mood this afternoon and i hate the insult and/or carelessness expressed by those who can't offer a pleasant display of their images. (Hope I don't get any angrier than I currently am.!
Okay, I'll chill now! I've let off plenty of steam.

My guess is that they do it to avoid being hunted down and low voted...if the image is in the top 100 and someone tried to view it to see whose it is, they cant read it...BUT..highlighting the text reveals it anyway!

| Are you actually doing this Richard? I believe this comes under what you so often in this forum call malicious voting! You're mad about the background colour and then low voting! The reason that I choose that colour is that Black is the most complimentary colour to a sunset. The only other colour of text that is then not a stark contrast with the black is..... Grey! Any other colour is a contrast! What does a contrast of colours do when it is put next to a photograph Richard? You should know this answer Richard as I am sure that you sell a lot of your work........ It diverts the viewers attention away from the photograph. Whether it is conciously or sub-conciously, a 'contrast in colours' next to a 'subject in viewing' (in this case a photograph) will divert the attention of your eye from that subject. That is why I choose grey on black. And why someone can't see grey on black, I don't know! It's not hard! And don't worry Richard, even though you are low voting my images, I will not be retaliating in any way, shape or form. I do not believe in stooping to this level. I will continue to 'practise what I preach' and vote fairly! Chris

ChrisSmall (3/12/2008) Are you actually doing this Richard?....
Chris, it's the dark charcoal text against the black bg which is unreadable. As Rob said, a light grey can work just fine. There's a bug in the image edit window. When one enters "Black" as the background, the window jumps the cursor past the text color box. And, unless one tabs through the entire page, the "Example" doesn't show the true combination look.
Because this is a bug, more recently, I've been just skipping over images with unreadable text. Since I'm a fairly generous voter on excellent images, some image authors are reducing the potential of their images with an unfortunate text color/bg color combination.

| Ok, that makes sense. Problem solved. I will change the colour combinations if it is a bug problem. The only other combination that I have found to not detract from the photograph was A dark grey on white. Would this be a problem? I don't think I would like to go all the way to black on white. Thanks for the response Chris

| Lets not forget that this is a photo competition - and not a commercial sales outlet. Therefore the talk of colour clashes occuring in titles and distracting the viewer is unnecessary and irrelevant. When voting all I see is what is contained within the frame - the surround is incidental and never considered unless its Digi-Art and somehow relevant. However, there is a circumstance which drives me towards distraction - illegibility and garish colour schemes. . I agree entirely with Richard - points should be lost for illegible offerings. Imagine if this was a real world competition - the judges strolling past the varied prints would look for the titles. "Look here, who's this, black on black?? idiot!! Ruled out." . My own usual colour shemes are 000000 - FFFFFF, FFFFFF - 000000 and 000000 - FFFF00. Black/White. White/Black. Black/Yellow. All clash yet I don't think they hold me back at all.

| Well luckily Glynn, my 'offerings' have always been GREY on black. A bug in the system making them black on black is not something that I will take credit for.
