| I am very much new to posting in forums and getting photo critique from online, but I am open and willing to hear what you all think of my photographs. Thanks to all who respond! This picture I took while I was in Maine visiting my Uncle Hank...he and his wife built this log cabin home with there very own hands and is just amazing!

| Hey there malibugirl, Glad to see you here ... I am not the best with critiques and their technical issues but I will give you my opinion aesthetic wise... I felt this had good focus and colors overall were nice, I liked the placement of the subject on the right. It was a bit bright though, and I felt that this photo could have or be improved by a closer range. The shot to me, would be more pleasing if it were more horizontal than vertical and I felt that so much of the blue sky took away from the main subject which I felt to be the house. So I am thinking (if you are going to edit this photo) that a crop off the top and perhaps a darker tint ? might give this image a boost. There are many others here who can elaborate and give you wonderful critiques but this is my opinion on this image.. Welcome to the forum.. Tonka

Hi Malibugirl...WELCOME!
Here's my two cents on your piccie...
I really like the colours (like Tonka said) and the placement of everything in the picture. I feel...to make it stronger...you may want to crop out the burnt grass in the foreground and make the bottom of the image just below the wee wall. The burnt grass takes away from the other colours in the image which are all so strong and vibrant. I would leave everything else as it is because then the house will be in the lower third. Be careful if you brighten any shots (and this one) that you don't blow out the clouds. I had a piccie where I blew out the clouds and somebody critiqued and said that he gave a lower score (which was totally fine) because of that one thing. I went back and fixed it and earned higher scores in the long run. So, just be careful with your clouds.
That is sooooo cool that they built that place themselves. Makes me look forward to my mountain trip in January with my girlfriends!
Good luck with this image and your others!
Susan

| Hey Malibu again!! I took a peek at the new pic...I do like it better I think that it is a tad too saturated though as is evidenced by the blue where I believe black should be such as in the shadows were the windows and tree shadows are...Can you desaturate this photo some? I am not sure if you sharpened this image at all but it may be oversharpened as well...Try changing the saturation to less though... Comp. is much more pleasing with your crop All just my opinion though...
