| I'm flexable either way. The ONLY request I have is, let us have our full weight. PLEASE.

Tonka,
It definitely takes skill to get a category award. My point, at least, is that even with a top image, it is far more difficult to get a weekly, for example, than a category award. After 16 category awards, one could collect the same weight as with one weekly award, but I believe it is more than 16 times as difficult to get the weekly.
Bottom line, I couldn't go less than 1 on the scale and I did not want the top numbers to seem outrageous (like 1,000 points for an annual or something), so I squeezed the scale. This new method, basically, achieves the same result of 'evening out' the point values while keeping the numbers at a level that 'looks ok' to the average person.
In my opinion, if the weights were measured in millions, it would all be the same, it is relative. I see the weight limits as more of a marketing effort so people unfamiliar with the system do not feel it is so impossible to achieve a higher account weight (even though I've said many times this is not the name of the game - most people tend to focus on it).

No one could have foreseen the persistent accumulation of category and sig category award weight by some members for the sake of increasing their weight and voting power. Most of us simply clipped off the older and less valued minor awards on a frequent basis because holding them forever diluted our ratings as photographers.
Seeking weight for weight's sake is a wrongheaded goal. The dynamic proposal above corrects this distortion.
Seeking peer review recognition through front page wins and a good overall score received is the better goal. The people who accomplish this should and will be the more heavily weighted voters. This will make the weighted voting system work more smoothly.
Removing the vote cap (75 votes per weight point) will help. I think the votes will still come. I know I will vote more when I'm doing it for the right reason. (The wrong reason being to increase one's weight.)

| I would suggest that standard category and signature category wins have zero weight attached to them. There are far too many of these awards. Just allow the awards to continue but simply do not award any points.

Tonka,
Your views are very reasonable and sound, however, spending time on this side of the emails illustrates that many members fundamentally misunderstand the purpose of the site and ever increasing account weights cause many to abandon DA.
My hope would be that any change we make would encourage more participation and make the site as a whole appear more valuable. It is a difficult balance.
