The simple solution is ROLLING WEIGHT. This needs to be done sooner and not later. Every day we accumulate more weight that will ultimately have to be adjusted.
.
I would couple this rolling weight change with a full release of all potential weight. As well, I feel this rolling weight should be rolled or controlled with varying time frames based on each level of award.

I would suggest VOTING weight earned from awards last the following time frames .
Category Awards - 90 Days
Signature Category Awards - 180 Days
.
Weekly & Daily Awards (both site and signature) 1year
.
Monthly Awards 2 years
.
Annual Awards 5 years (or maybe life!)
.
This would again return the award emphasis back towards higher level award achievement, a flatten the widening voting weight spread and place the true voting weight in the hands of those that have demonstrated the highest level achievements. WE

Not unstable - DYNAMIC! ...and That would be GOOD not BAD!!!!! The list would be more be more stable using a varying time frame as those earning higher level awards would hold that weight longer than those gaining weight simply by entering shot after shot for 3 point category wins.

I don't think the rolling weight thing is a bad idea. There is one possible issue that could arise. Some members could be tempted to submit duplicate images to keep their status. Since Eric is just one person, would there be a panel or council to monitor such behavior?

I strongly endorse Wright's dynamic concept. I think it's a natural and necessary evolution in the website. And, it would solve a lot of the weight issues which have developed.

Furthermore, it would motivate all to improve their photography skill sets by striving for higher degrees of excellence in their photography. Resting on one's laurels is a dangerous habit. Software applications and camera/lens capabilities are improving rapidly. We need to let go of our older images and their related awards. The impetus to make better images can flow from a change to a rolling weight

And I never said it or change was a BAD thing by the way ( I don't think),,just not sure how the program will pan out....

I wish I could set on my laurels AND buy new equipment and technology as it came out ...LOL...

I am the guy who has to wait for last years technology to go on a massive clearance because it will no longer be useable 6 months from purchase..LOL...

But, that my friends, is a whole nuther discussion....

..

I guess the only thing is to see how it goes...

I will reserve any further opinions until the info is collected..lol....and I will be waiting...heh heh.........

Is Eric even considering this change?

I quoted both because:

1. Wemor's  idea is dead on, though the time frames could be a bit shorter.

2. Richard's assement of it truly can't be better said.

Now if we could solve the target voting, eliminate nasty comments or allow a way to never have to see them, and improve the instructional/critique side of the site it would be golden.

I have the utmost confidence that those issues can be solved as well.

Good work!
