There seems to be a host of reasons to open up the visibility of the dailyawards.com system! I'm not exactly sure why we've submerged information and data into darkness. I've seen the system operate from both sides of the equation. It's not better with concealment of data. The nefarious behaviors and targeted voting increase when members can act with impunity and lack of accountability.

I find that I spend less time and energy here.... now that the system is opaque, in general. A wholesome and interesting aspect of the site has been lost!

It is a big negative for me to receive low votes from anonymous members who refuse to offer suggestions for improvement. Why should I participate here? It's not intuitively obvious to me.

It would be good to be able to assess a vote in the context of the voter's voting scale and average vote cast. I am asking specifically to be able to see everyone's vote distribution and average vote cast
.

What I would like to know, Richard, is to what purpose would it serve, once a vote has been cast, to see the persons voting average etc?

As far as I am aware all the hard work Eric has done for DAv3 is to protect everyone from target voters, so why would you want to undo all that?!

Here is a suggestion, Richard, if you are so unhappy with DA, why not start your own contest site? You could have it as transparent as you liked!

I agree with you Richard. I have been getting the weirdest votes lately - anything from 9's to 5's on the same shot. It's very hard to know what to think about my shots I've been uploading lately. At least if I could look at someone's work who just gave me a 5 on something I could see if I put a lot of value in their opinion or not. I'm not even requesting comments anymore - well one recently because I valued the person's opinion and it was a 5. But usually, it doesn't do any good to request - if you're masked and have a low weight, there's no reason you need to do anything but ignore - no one's going to know who you are anyway

I've been getting a wide variety of votes too! from high and low weight members.

And actually, have sent out a few RFC's -- not to justify the score, but for honest feedback. I find it interesting that an image can rec'v 7,8,9's... then BOOM, all of a sudden a 4 and 5 and a few 6's.

What did I miss? What did the other voters miss?

I'm a masked voter... but every now and then, I take the mask off.

I feel if a voter gives a low(er) score, then he/she should also give some feedback to the photographer. JMO   Common courtesy!

What exactly would this data tell you Richard? That those casting the vote was a good voter or a bad voter? Allow you to judge their ability to determine what they like or dislike?

Votes vary so much according to what appeals to the individual and such data comes from voting upon a mountain of different images and styles, so it's basically meaningless and would tell you nothing.

Now if it were possible for:

* the average vote cast from voter to image owner; and
* it is displayed in the top right hand corner after a vote is cast;

Then that would provide data that was useful as it would tell you if that voter liked your style of photography, or not. No doubt it would also provide Eric with another avenue to identify Friend/Foe voting.

However, in saying that it may slow down the voting window and it would probably open up another can of worms and a host of complaints. So probably not worth the hassle.

Nobody should ever be fearful of voting as they see fit nor should they ever feel that they must justify their votes.

More effort should go into commenting at the point of voting rather than after the event.

If the RFC system was done away with and members got into the habit of commenting more at the point of voting then feedback would have a lot more sincerity and DA would be a much friendlier place!

If we didn't have the RFC system and members had to either - comment on 10% of their votes or - comment upon those images that they've voted X points outwith their average then most of us would receive a lot more valuable feedback than we do now.
