| I have a recent image that was archived. The last vote received was yesterday and now it's archived. I didn't manually archive it and it doesn't appear to fall the required 2 standard deviations below the highest is the category, so why was it archived? Help... Chad

| Image # 100738 - "Familiar sight in the wild blue yonder" carries a Site average rating of 6.0083 after 24 raw votes and a signature average rating of 6.1341 after 15 signature raw votes. . This image was auto-archived by the system because neither rating was not high enough for the image to be considered competitive beyond the Category/Daily Award level. WE

Well, then the auto-archive seems a bit off. In the top 100 in the Other category, #100 is around 7.4. After just 24 votes the system decided my shot had NO chance of getting closer to that?
Seems a bit aggressive and harsh to me.

. It is not that it had NO Chance. This is always mathmatically possible. It determined it had a VERY UNLIKELY chance to become competitive for additional awards. . This image has received 24 standard raw votes. These votes are made up of 5-sevens, 15-sixes, 3-fives, and 1-four. Based on the weights of these votes cast (all sig votes capped @ 13) the average rating is calculated at 6.0083. . In order to raise this image's rating to a score of just 7.0000; it would need to receive 7 consecutive 10 votes or 10 consecutive 9 votes or 19 consecutive 8 votes. As well, all these votes would need to come without any lower votes entering into the mix. This image has yet to receive 1 rating in 24 equal to the ratings required to raise it to the 7.0 level, therefore it is very unlikely that will happen now. . The Auto-Archive system is designed to keep the voting pool lean and to allow the most competitive images to advance and collect additional votes. This image received a fair number of votes to determine its rating. This rating was not high enough to consider the image competitive for advanced awards so it was archived to allow room for another photo in the contest. . Even though archived, this image is still in competition for the four awards that it is RAW vote qualified for (category, Daily, Sig Category, and Sig Daily). The archive of this image also opens an additional upload slot for you to enter another photograph. . Best of luck in the contest. WE
