Since the site moved to v3, a bug has been buried in the upload page that prevented a lot more people from uploading than it should have. So, many people who got the email on the 3,000 image archive were probably not happy to find they could still not upload.

That's the bad news. The good news is that because of the 'worse than it should have been' upload policy, we are really ahead on the vote ratio. The site is presently at almost 1.4:1, which means you should get an average of 1.4 votes per day for each of your images.

The more bad news (for the short term) is that I want to lock these gains into the system, so I've made the threshold now 1.4. This applies now to ALL USERS with an individual ratio of less than 1.4:1 (previously, if you, yourself, had a 1:1 ratio, you could skip this check, now you're bound to having at least the site required ratio).

Again, sorry for the difficulties that came with this change, but it is under control now and everyone should be getting votes much faster than under the old site.

The votes are certainly coming faster.  I have received so many in the past three or four days I feel compelled to vote even more myself. (NOT A BAD THING AT ALL!!)

For me, one thing needs clarification.  When you lock in a ratio of 1.4:1  what exactly are you looking at.  Are you looking at a members daily votes cast to be 1.4 X's the number of active images that each member has in the voting pool or is it an Overall Histroical Voting Ratio?

If it is on a DAILY basis are the voters that have voting deficits (less than 1:1) now open to participate based on only on their current daily voting activety?  WE

1.4:1 means, as an example, there have been 14,000 votes over the past 24 hours and there are 10,000 images in the system (these are fake numbers for an example). Locking that in means the upload page will shut down when the ratio dips below 1.4. This forces votes to flow in while images flow to the archive without new images entering the pool.

Each individual voting ratio (complete historical votes cast / votes received) is compared. So, if you've cast 100 votes and received 90 then you have a 1.11 ratio. This means you can upload freely as long as the site-wide ratio stays above 1.4, but if not, then you will be locked from uploading. Anyone who presently has a vote ratio of 1.4 or higher can upload regardless of the system-wide status.

You can find your vote ratio on your account page.

I see - EVERYONE has upload capability as long as the site is receiving enough votes.  When votes fall below the set ratio (1.4:1 today). Only those members who have historical voting ratios at 1.4:1 or higher may upload new entries.  Seems reasonable.  Thanks for the clarification.  WE

Well ... not exactly.

There is a final check to see if you've voted at least 3/4 of the votes you've received. It is this final check that has trapped the users I referenced in the policy violation posting. Actually, I spoke with one of them and that change did little to help their situation so I'm considering other options, like setting this to 25% and moving it up little by little. Not sure what the solution will be yet.

Speaking for myself, I think that the final 75% trap should be dropped. Yes, while it was irresponsible for voters to fall into such a great vote deficit, there really was not a rule that required reciprocal participation. Now that there is a monitor, all voters will need to participate equally to maintain an acceptable voting base. It seems a bit hard line to expect those deficit voters to "Make Up" for their past voting short comings. Some have almost impossible numbers to make up.
.
I think the site would be best served to allow everyone to upload when votes are feeding in at an acceptable pace. If the pace slows, then employ the upload shot off vale to control the image flow. Those with the lowest voting ratios will still be the first to suffer if any cutoffs take effect. WE

I agree with your assessment. I have moved the requirement from 75% to 25%.

I think long-term, I would like to keep a check in place for the individual as some could still not cast a vote and upload as long as the site is in balance w/o it.
