First of all , I think that it is the bkrnd..I think for this subject the bkrnd needed to be all dark or all lighter...there are some interesting colors but not enough light to enhance the subject but rather distracts the eye....
Also the crop seems almost too close for this...the detail is wonderful, light on the subject is very nice so this would really stand out a bit further away with a completely black bkrnd..
Does that make sense?...WEll that is just what I see here...and just my opinion...I sure hope you get more.....
I may not always be wRIGHTbut I am never wrong Profile - Top 24 -
I was trying to create a more natural light effect, by darkening the background but not going all the way to black. I used a off centered composition to include some of the detail from the background to increase the DOF effect.
personally I think that subtle colors and lighting in the bkrnd look beautiful so I like your concept..I would encourage you to keep trying different levels of lighting to come up with a perfect match ...
I also tend to like square crops on very round flowers..but again that is only my taste...
Oh just a thought here O....what about burning the darkest areas of the bkrnd while leaving the foliage a bit brighter?..just a thought ...
The bloom is wonderful and I bet there is a solution which would make this wonderful...
