Early yesterday morning I saw that my "Im a big softie" had won the daily signature and category award on the home page! I was really excited! I have not been able to be on line since then but on my return just now I have received 9 comments of congratulations from members and also another 176 new votes on my images!!!!

Just really wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who voted and commented on "Im a big softie" and in fact for all my votes and comments. I'm off to vote to try and catch up!

Hey everyone..

Can I tell you all something?

I was just looking at comments on my image Vanquishment, I was also looking through the votes.

I am totally , emotionally just about overwhelmed.
I did not expect these wins today, I did not have enough qualifying votes late last night and nor did I expect this image to maintain such a high rating..

With all of the member's comments and votes...I have to tell you all that it is all of you who I thank.

The votes, the comments, the feedback, the RFC's, the mentoring, the help via the forum and articles and links, the candid conversations technique and thoughts both public and private...WOW..
what a great bunch I belong to.
Humbly I thank you for nurturing whatever talent I have.

Hello every one
First thank you all for voting to my pic it won the Signature and Standard Awards
today :D & it's my first win :)
and i appreciate the nice comments i have on it. It gave me a nice push forward
after i was losing hope of taking a good pic :)
when i saw my ranking is good enough to win the category i fastly archive it,
:blush: ok i think i was coward in this step :)
however i wished if my pic stay longer in the voting pool so i may have more comments & more voting from different people I'm only one year experienced in photography and your comments & voting really makes different
anyway i just want to ask
i have a similar photo to this that won but with slightly different angle, am i eligible for submitting it for voting ?
or i'm just wasting people time for voting to a similar picture they saw before.

...............must not be working? The last 4 I've gotten, I wouldn't have known about if Bhasmang hadn't written to congratulate me.

I don't know how many have noticed but Today Richard Hahn passed the 2,500 mark for potential weight. The 160 added for the 5 Home page wins yesterday certainly helped. Then today some more tipped him over the 2,500.

Months later, has the weighting system changed how you feel?

My scores have gone up as the site's voting average has gone up, but not fast enough to catch the typical home page winners.

Most of the shots I enter win the category and signature category awards. But I've won only one daily award, and that was a fluke of timing.

In other words, I think I'm now a classic "weight 9" person from the old system: good enough to do well within a category, but not good enough to do well across them. Different system, same resulting place in the universe. So getting more of those awards is fun, but for me, it's not really indicating progress as a photographer.

Anyone else feeling that way?

This isn't a complaint about my scores, and it certainly isn't a complaint or request for change to how DA works. I'm also not fishing for compliments. I put as much time as I want into photography, and I really enjoy myself.

Rather, I'm wondering whether the change to the weight system from fixed numbers based on the type of awards you've won to the current ever-increasing weight really mattered. I knew then what I know now: my skills aren't yet at the level of those who frequently appear on the home page.

What do you think? Does having increasing weights make you feel better?
