When money is involved quality and the sincerity of the feedback will surely suffer. For me personally, this site had been a great opportunity to get a very good (and most importantly honest) feedback. As an amateur to photography, I can learn a lot from sincere comments.

So I think it is better if do not take money into picture. :)

I agree I am really enjoying this site, and the feedback. There are some who intentionally vote lowest possible and don't provide feedback when requested to drop your ratings, but thats going to happen anywhere. I just take those with a grain of salt now as it didn't take me long to register as to who those are. Even with an unknown its not hard to work out who it was, based on their weight.

Anyway back to my point, I agree with keeping monetary prizes out of it, you are going to get a lot of traffic -- yet a lot of really crap images in the process. I have been linking some of my more serious photographer friends in hopes to bump up traffic, but I am hoping that even in future times when the site is busier that we don't have to deal with wasted time getting absolute crap deleted, by bringing in photographers and not idiots with nice cameras :)

Some of us vote as of right, some don't, voting needs to be the big part of taking part if you follow me, anything that gets voting going gets my vote, so to say.

Have a prize for VOTERS....maybe a free month of subscription service. Maybe that will get people going?

Whoever casts the most votes each month gets the prize...in the event of a tie, let it go to the lowest weight. Most of the higher weights are already voting...we need to put a fire under the others!

Hi Ethan

Having a subscription won't help anyone's photos win awards at all as it has no influence on the voters and how they score photos.

Gaining access to more in depth stats and no advertising are probably the main reasons for getting a subscription. Certainly worthwhile if you like stats and don't like advertising. :)

Hi,

Had a question. I've been posting here for about a year. I absolutley love this site. Like everyone else has said, very user friendly and the crowd that visits and posts are very kind. I personally appreciate the constructive comments left by people. It's helped me to pick my shots better and pay more attention to my surroundings.

My question is, does having a $$ subscription help your pictures with winning awards or not. One person says they think it does and another says it doesn't matter. I've just figured if your picture is good enough, it will win an award....

All Categories have the Category Award and Signature Award every day. This alone are 42 awards on a daily basis.

:)Hi This was the first site that i started to enter my Photographs into and i have to say that it is the most user friendly, and for me most rewarding. Have tried a couple of other sites and got totally frustrated trying to find my way round. Personally i feel the smaller number of photos to be more rewarding. The feedback i have received has taught me a lot. The other sites i tried are so large that only one of my photos received a comment and that was to moan about my title!

The site issues about 1375 awards each month.

Daily Category Award = 21 per day x 31 = 651

Daily Signature Category Award = 21 per day x 31 = 651

Daily Award = 1 per day x 31 = 31

Daily Signature Award = 1 per day x 31 = 31

Weekly Award = 1 per week x 4 = 4

Weekly Signature Award = 1 per week x 4 = 4

Monthly Award = 1

Monthly Signature Award = 1

TOTAL ~ 1374

I'm new here so hopefully opinions can be freely shared here.
Having prizes is a double edge sword. The images I see here, for the most part, are of a higher caliber than those of other sites that I frequent. The quality of the feedback appears to also be of a higher caliber. Were money to come into the picture then you would see a dramatic decrease in the quality of both, a dramatic increase in gamesmanship, in fighting (not that there isn't some of that already), and a general decline in the community that surrounds this site. It's not to say that this site is perfect but to me it comes close.
To quote a movie I saw with some changes, "The prize here is learning, and feedback arms you for what's out there. Each new techinque you learn makes you that much harder to knock down. If in the end you are not stronger and tougher then you have lost nothing, but if you are... That is your prize."

When on the home page you can click "signature" or "category" and it will take you to the pages to show you who won. The Daily awards, monthly and annual awards are on the homepage where you sign in! :D

I'm confused...
There are daily awards for winners in every categories every day. In both category awards and signature awards.

Now if there was some money involved I am sure traffic would greatly increase!!! ha ha ha !!!!! :P

i feel that this is a great site for amateur as well as professionals. however the number of prizes given out to the winners should be increased. this will help generate more traffic to the site and make it even more interactive as there are going to be more winners. the number of prizes should increase in numbers. the value of the prize could be very small. there should be daily awards in all categories.
