I don't understand the why any objection against the larger display - except the for the larger file size and disk place usage - For first viewing and voting the photo is 640x640 and you have the option to view it full size. If your monitor setup is not right for the larger size viewing or you dont like to scrolling - don't go to the full size.

The 640 x 640 was ok with me. I save most of my photos in larger sizes as well, but I get irritated having to scroll when I vote so I usually send in the smaller size.

Since the problem is the image size, I would restrict the size only to 1 -1.5 Mb and remove any size restriction - especially the 2:1 ratio - to able to post panoramic images. The posting an 4000x3000 image is suicide - ( except the panorama with only one directional scrolling) - unviewable what sooner or later everybody find out. I would like to see the background black for the full size view and the small white frame around the image, so the picture will be separated fom the background. I am very happy to see moving out from the 640x640 display - I really like the DailyAwards, but took me a long time to suscribe becouse the 640 limit.

Eric, the quality of the 640X files seemed fine to me.

Eric, I think WE is right on with the size. And you would not have to change it in one month again. Also by then there are so many large files uploaded that it would take a wile for them to fade away. I assume that the images that are already uploaded can stay. Is this correct? So you would have to wait until someone is deleting them for your storage size to shrink.

That may have to happen. I was shocked when I checked the directory size today especially as this feature is limited only to subscribers. We can try this new limit for a while and see how it works out.

As I mentioned, there was a little more to the decision. I would have reduced the limit anyway, but I heard complaints of load time and having to scroll to view the image.

For sure, I intend to do the following to the full-size viewer page

1) Add a link to it from the regular image viewer
2) set the background color according to the image options
3) add links or an input box to allow you to pick the size you wish to view (up to the maximum)

The storage requirements for the site quadrupled since the introduction of 4000px max image size. For this reason, and other complaints around the extremely large images, I have reduced the maximum to 2000 pixels and 2048KB.

I am sorry for restricting the limit, but the previous policy was not sustainable.
