Recently, a technical site change was made to alleviate a bottleneck within the voting system that was created as a result of the numerous site changes when we moved to DAv3. As a result of this, many users were able to vote where they had previously been constrained. As a result of that, the vote ratio went from approximately 2:1 to over 5:1! That means any image in the system is, as of this writing, getting over 5 votes per day! This is why your images are needed!

It seems clear to me that the changes to improve the voting ratio have been even more successful than what was imagined and it indicates there is an abundance of voters and a lack of images. At present, there are only about 1,400 active images in the system whereas there were over 10,000 before the move to v3.

So, if you have images that you'd like to submit for feedback, now is a perfect time. I believe you will be happy with how many votes your images will rake in.

Sorry for the outage!

The DailyAwards.com website was down for an extended time from Saturday (Feb. 24) to Tuesday (Feb. 27). The cause of the outage was server failure.

The site has been restored and the last of the images are copying over as I write this. I want to apologize for this extended outage and say that I will do all that I can to prevent this from happening again.

As a way to apologize, all users can add a month to their account using the coupon code at the end of this message. Thank you for sticking with the site thorough this trouble and I hope everything gets back on track soon.

If you encounter any issues with the site, you may respond to this message.

Sincerely,

Eric Elsten
DailyAwards.com

Coupon Code: freemonth
DailyAwards.com Birthday Celebration

DailyAwards.com will be one year old on January 25, 2007. I hope your experience is going well. For the past few months there has been discussion off and on again in the forum regarding a weight cap for standard image ratings. This issue has reached a critical point where implementation is likely to happen.

I would encourage you to visit the current discussion on the topic and contribute if you have some ideas on the subject. You can find this thread at the following URL.

http://www.dailyawards.com/DAForum/Topic2469-21-1.aspx

The idea is as follows:
Today, the signature rating is calculated based on the votes from the top 7.5% of the community. Also today, standard ratings are derived from the votes of all users (including the top 7.5%). This proposal would cap the weight effect from signature members (the top 7.5%) on the standard image rating.

As an example:
Today, an image gets the following votes
Weight: 3 Score: 9
Weight: 300 Score: 7
Standard Rating: 7.0198

Under the proposed system:
Weight: 3 Score: 9
Weight 300 Score: 7
The 300 weight user is capped at the threshold weight between standard and signature weights (today that is a weight of 11)
Standard Rating: 7.4286

This proposal would effectively give all users who are not in the top 7.5% of the community more power over the ratings of the standard images.

An important note: Signature ratings and votes WILL NOT be impacted by this change. This change only applies to standard ratings.

Once again, thank you for your participation at DailyAwards.com. I hope you find this proposal to be a positive move but either way, I do hope you will visit the forum and contribute to the discussion.

Sincerely,

Eric Elsten
DailyAwards.com
I hope you have been able to join us

Thank you for being a member at DailyAwards.com.
