Yes cameras are capable of amazing things these days but can you honestly say anyone could pick one up and have good results.

That picture of your wolf might not be captured very well even though it is a great find. This does not mean it is a great capture.

As for your easterbunny in the Walmart parking lot...if done right could capture some of the greatest emotion you have seen in a photo.

Seeing how fast your vote count has gone up I highly doubt you have taken your time and thought it out well.

Just my opinion but maybe try to slow it down and include all aspects of a photo not just how hard it was to be in position for a photograph.

Other than that...Have A Nice Day!

RE: question on winners
Creeker (3/28/2008)
Thankyou so much for taking the time to make me understand it better. I did not know that images can be deleted by getting low voting points. Because of that , then it makes more sence to me. I guess if people here would really take the time to judge a photo in every way, such as how common is it, can anybody go out an take a photo like this, beside just the lighting, sharpness, after all any good camera can take great photos these days, but if the shot was a hard to get capture I believe it deserve's a high enough voting point. I don't want to offend anyone just an example here people standing around an easter bunny at the walmart get's a vote of 7 so does the great shot of a wolf or gator for that mater. This is why I did'nt understand the voting points. If more people voted for the easter bunny on any perticular day, then they very well could out win the great shot of a woIf. If people here would really take the time when voting then I can see where this would work.
Sorry, but I need to flag your comments as duplicitous fabrications. No one, and I mean no real person, writes or speaks like you do. Your grammar, spelling errors and punctuation would not pass a "lie detector test". Yes, I'm jumping to conclusions, but a forensic analysis of your "English" is highly indicative of someone trying to conceal their true identity. So, my advice to you is to be yourself, because the persona you are presenting in the forum does not fly under my radar.

Oh, you're not the first, nor the last. But, I'd say you are the most transparent fraud I've seen for a while. Sorry to offend. Your charade is not working! I will boycott any thread in which you participate.

RE: question on winners

Thankyou so much for taking the time to make me understand it better. So It is back to every image has the chance to win in time.
Most of the top 100 images with enough qualifying votes have already won awards. Any particular image can only win an award one time.

Two things to consider with regards to your statement. Images that fall below 5.0000 after receiving 15 qualifying votes will be auto deleted. And, at each gate milestone (the level of qualifying votes to win the longer duration awards) images that are mathematically out of the running for additional awards will be automatically archived.

Needless to say, there are many members who self-archive or self-delete their images.

Bottom line: the contest is dynamic and filtered in several ways. This is an advantage to the voters and the artists. More votes will be gathered by the images with higher rankings. That said, any image in the active voting pool has a statistically equal chance of appearing in a voting window.... on a random basis.

I would highly recommend reading the FAQ page.

RE: question on winners

Yes I did look at the winning images, and the top 100 and some of the top 100 at least to me are much better then the ones that won that is why I asked the question in the first place. They are not your random assortment - but the cream of the crop. Good shots win, the poor fall by the wayside - nothing random in that.

.

Richard, why did the scrolling thing cease to be a problem about a week ago?? Do Formally let us know. Don't Forget now.

RE: question on winners
Creeker (3/28/2008)
Thankyou it at least makes sence now, so any photo can win around here good or bad as long at they got the 15 votes for the day, therefore if when voting you only get to vote on everyday average pictures , its the luck of the draw. If you has an outstanding photo, but it never comes up for anyone to vote you may not win that day, but on another day that photo comes up[ more you do win that day. Thios way everybodys a winner here good or bad or great.
That's ridiculous! No offense intended. Just to clarify how the system works... The active images in the voting pool are presented to voters in a random manner. Each voter gets to vote once on each unique image. The current site-wide vote ratio is 3.4512. That means you should expect to receive, on average, about 3 or 4 votes per day on each active image. 15 qualifying votes will be collected in about 4 days.

In general, the best images in each category win the award for which they qualify. Best average weighted rating wins. Weak images carrying poor ratings will not appear on the front page.

There has been some discussion of increasing the number of votes required to qualify for an award. Maybe the DAGC will address this issue, as time permits. Also, there has been some concern about skipping voting on some images. Since that distorts the random voting a bit, the DAGC should think about preventing scrolling through images via the voting window. I don't think is as big an issue as it was about a week ago.

RE: question on winners

Thankyou it at least makes sence now, so any photo can win around here good or bad as long at they got the 15 votes for the day, therefore if when voting you only get to vote on everyday average pictures , its the luck of the draw. Most of the top 100 in all the different categories have already won a categorie award unless they don't have 15 votes. Some think you shouldn't be able to see photos on the top 100 list if they havn't received an award yet. I think I agree with those people.

RE: question on winners

  On the same track!

RE: question on winners

Hi there!
The winning image of the day is the highest scored image with 15+ votes at midnight. So, there may be a higher image but it may not have accumulated those 15 votes yet. Images must have received 15 votes (standard or signature) to win their respective award. Other images, without the awards, may have a higher average, but may not qualify for the awards due falling short of qualifying votes received at the time of rollover.

question on winners

How is it that someone wins for the day in a catagory but if you view the top 100 they have more points then the winner ?
