Yes well WE:cool: I am totally frustrated by this..and I dont really think I am outta line with the VOTEDIMAGES....

I was hoping this could be remedied....

I am truly not more happy about the direction than I am unhappy.. Again, acknowledging the contest anonymity for what it is, but it has stripped the social aspect by over half IMO..and that was 80% of the joy I had in DA.

I just want to advocate for whatever areas can be open to be able to be open.
Seriously I think that people have got to acknowledge this as more than just a contest site. So hardcore professionals and competetors just want to play by themselves?? well I think a different photo contest site (not naming names) would be a great place to do that..

For the life of me , I cant imagine being able to learn as much as quick as I have if I had joined a week ago vs. a year ago.

But hey , thanks for letting me vent and whine anyway. ;)

There is no real difference in the TOP 100 w/o Awards category listings as far as the images go. The only change is that there are no photographers connected to the displayed entries. I enjoy "no knowing" the photographer of these images until I see them earn awards.

Glynn, you have even said that you expect anonymity in contest image presentation. Images with Signatures The disassociation of photographer and image in active contest entries supports this.

I agree with everything Tonka has to say. I come online to showcase my work and to see the work of others. In doing so I want open and free access to all images at whatever stage of the cycle they're at. From a personal viewpoint all the added security and secrecy is a big turn off and leaves me feeling isolated.

It would seem that there is very little trust around the site these days. I'm not trusted to view active images anymore- why? Because one or two desperados have made mischief in the past. So the sins of the few are visited on the many.

I used to get great delight from viewing the Top100 without awards. That pleasure has now gone - all in the name of the integrity of the competition. The competition has never lacked integrity, just some of the competitors is all. And what worries me is that the original status quo may never return. Instead things will become less and less sociable until we are all sat before our screens wrapped in chains.

I think that the high price being paid to enhance the integrity of the competition comes at the expense of the social side - and I don't like it.

Oh poppycock with hidden images that we have already voted on.

I can't in any way fathom negativity of viewing an image I have already voted on with or without an award..

gimme a break.

I am not blessed with the time to casually browse through the photographer list and then their individual images with the thumbnails having to be reclicked every time, sifting through subjects I did not intend on looking at...

I see what I want to see after I vote on the images..click click there it is to further analyze and/or comment on ...finding out who the photog was also prompts me to want to make further comments occassionally as well.

Again, the few bad eggs spoiling the bunch..why is that always the way?..

again, not trying to be cheeky..slightly irritable,,, last couple of weeks of this semester...CRUNCH time!!!

and I am not getting to take many piccies and I miss it terribly..:(

I've often ran into this as well... voting on a spectacular image, then wanting another look, But... unable to do so. :(

Just a suggestion: Could we PLEASE have a contact member link?

Other than sending PM's?!!

I dont do PMs, I would much rather send the member a message through a "contact" link that is located on their member page, which would go directly to their email box. Allowing further communication, especially with RFCs, general comments/praise, critiques, etc ...

Please?!!

And if members do not want this, then they can opt out. But for those that do, we can place the link for contact and communications.

I like the old Profile page better too. I'm sure Eric will come up with something to make the one we have just as good in time.

I can't emphasise how strongly I agree with WE regarding [b]ALL active images being hidden from view! [/b] Even if they have won an award "but are still active" then they should be hidden!

As things stand and as I think Sarah stated - "it's a loophole in the system". DA "must be seen" to be 100% fair to its present membership and to prospective members. Otherwise, a lot of the hard work that Eric has put into the site recently will have been wasted.

I could give you a prime example of how the possibility of foul play can arise in certain circumstances but I don't think that would be the right thing to do.

Tonka - there's thousands of images for members to browse through - and if you feel that a particular image is outstanding and score it appropriately then the chances are you'll get to browse it too one day as it'll undoubtedly win awards. You just need to be more patient.

The integrity of the site can surely not be put at risk due to such reasons and I'd urge Eric to close this loophole at his earliest convenience.

Well technically, if the links haven't been added and I wasnt aware of that, then yes I perceived correctly..:)

I agree with the lists being duplicate..if...we could have the lock feature for organizing, then, the separate lists would not be needed..just an idea...

Third....If I have voted on an image why cant I view it or click on it in the voting window after I voted, and go and look some more, add comments, have a dialog with the photog?...what is wrong with doing that? Just because it doesnt have an award, I cant see it when I have already seen it through voting?????

Not trying to be cheeky but it is difficult when one is on the other side of the fence with certain changes...so this is frustrating for me. bear with.

All three pages that you could view in the old version are still viewable now (the links to reach them have just yet to be added). Follow the links in my post signature. They will take you to MyProflie, MyTop24, and MyImages pages. The only two real changes are 1) the format of the profile page and 2) active images without awards are not displayed in the MyImages page.

I also prefer the format of the [b]older[/b] MyProfile page. I often sent that link to people when I told them about the site. It displayed well and gave a good sample of everyone submissions. Now, the my profile page with it's two display list, (that are practically duplicates) is not as attractive a place to use as an example of the site. I would like to see the old format with larger thumbnail links to the full image return.

The only images that are not directly viewable are those in the active contest. To me, that is a definite plus for protecting the integrity of the contest and just something that we will need to be adapt too. All the best images will at least win category awards and should be viewable in a matter of days after entry. As well, the highest rated 100 are also immediately viewable in the TOP 100 category listings without awards. These just do not have the photographer's name included.

I don't think here is really as much change in image viewing as you perceive.

I'll chime in too :D I really miss the viewing priviledges also. There's so many improvements and new features with DAv3 but not being able to see all images is a great loss IMO. I agree with all the reasons Tonka and HappySnaps have already mentioned; I too have at times wanted to comment on an image after having voted but then can't see the image anymore :crying: Another reason I miss it is from a learning standpoint ... I found it immensely helpful to read some of the RfC comments on others members' images. Many times when voting, if I found my rating to be considerably higher or lower than the image's average, I'd go to the image to see if there were any comments ... Sometimes in reading the detailed critiques of an image, weaknesses were pointed out that in my "newbie-ness" I had overlooked ... or conversely, technical aspects had been mastered that I hadn't fully appreciated. It helped me grow with how I look at other images when voting and also with creating my images.

Tonka, I also agree wholeheartedly about the sort feature :cool: I never seem to be able to get it sorted how I want it :unsure: I'd like to 'lock' it as sorted by active/archived and then standard rating in descending order ...with the active images on top but the archived images are always listed first. If I get the active images on top, then the rating is in ascending order :crazy::unsure:

That is another good example. I ran across an image yesterday while voting that absolutely blew my socks off. I really couldn't think of words (besides OMG! or WOW!) at that time so I just gave it the 10 I felt it deserved and went on with voting. After pondering on the image most of the day, I wanted to find it and leave a comment. Guess what? No can do.

I have also tried to view an image after voting on it and could not get to it...it wouldnt show or I just could not navigate to find it. :(

I rather miss the viewing priviledges, also. Funny that you would mention this Tonka because a situation concerning you yesterday brought an issue to my attention.

I received a "request for comments"... after replying and then receiving the response, I wanted to go back and look at the image again. Unfortunately, that was not possible.

How can there be any ongoing communication about an image with this rule?

I gotta speak my mind here...

I am somewhat disappointed with the lack of information we can view.. ...
When we looked through other members folios.
Before, firstly, images were auto viewable and secondly we could look through other areas of those members pages besides just their portfolio page.

Like their top images page.
And I think it is very confusing on their pages as well as my own, with the "Awards won" section and the "Archived section"

I would like to see the images with awards since they are viewable even if I havent voted on them yet because we can. but it is very hard to tell what is what and furthermore what I would like to look at ...like floral images vs.digiart , for example, without having to stop to change to thumbnails...and then if I wish to make a comment, I hit enter and back again to no thumbnails ..geesh louishe I cant take it anymore ....LOL>...:P
Is there anyone who minds if their TOP IMAGES page is viewable to all members? okay without the ones with no awards shown..:blink:

Along with this issue is the sorting mechanism..no matter what I do everything goes back to default on my page or other's pages when I switch pages for a sec. Very frustrating and not a help with portfolio management at all.

I only bring this up because ease of navigation is much smoother and quicker if there are images available automatically..no lock feature on my preferred method of organization is extremely frustrating.
In my opinion , the sort feature is useless without a lock...:(..
