Paul,

I really appreciate you taking the time to critique my photo. I had forgotten that I posted it here in the forum. You offered some helpful suggestions. Also thanks for the compliments about my photos. Photography is just a hobby of mine and I am just beginning to learn a bit of the technical part of it. I appreciate ANY constructive critiques that I receive. One of the great things about DA is getting pointers from more experienced photographers. Unfortunately not too many are willing to offer it. I don't remember getting unsatisfactory scores from you in the past...in the future I welcome any input that you can offer to help me improve. Thanks!

By the way. I failed to say, you have some really fine work in your profile. When I went to your profile I recognized some photos that I have seen before. I may have voted a score that you had issues with. We may have already shared some comments. I hope you take my comments as constructive. They are certainly meant to help. I don't claim to be an expert. Although I have been fortunate to receive some awards at DA. That is not really my reason for participating. I participate as a Non-paying member, as a testing board for other sites that I also enjoy.

You describe this photo very well..."I thought it was an incredible photo opportunity and felt that it turned out pretty good". It WAS an I[i]incredible Opportunity[/i]. It did turn out [i]Pretty Good[/i]. Your scores: in the high 6's for Standard, and 7's for Signature, reflect a [i]Pretty Good[/i] photograph. I have voted 8 on a small percentage of the photos I have seen at DA. I have voted on many photos. I have voted an 8 only about 5%. I have given a 9 on probably 3%. I have voted a 10 on 1. So in My Humble Opinion, a 7 is "Pretty Good". What score did you perceive the photo is worthy of?

The image does have some issues that don't make it a poor effort, but DO keep it from being placed in the next category of excellence. If you feel you are not getting the ratings that you deserve, try posting your work on some other photo websites, to get a 2nd, or 3rd opinion. I think you will find that DA is not as critical as some of the larger sites, that have been around for a longer time. If you would like to know of two that I like very much, send me an e-mail. I will tell you about them privately. I don't want DA to think that I am promoting their competition. I may already be guilty of that.

Keep shooting. You have a very good eye.

This photo has not done as well as I expected it to. Maybe it is one of those " Had to be there" shots.. I thought it was an incredible photo opportunity and felt that it turned out pretty good. I would appreciate any and all feedback.
