I knew I read it somewhere.

In Paragraph "Gates" on the site overview page it say's

Gates

Gates are used in the auto-archive process to select those images that remain and archive those images that are removed from the voting pool. There are four total gates. Every image will ultimately be archived at some point in its life, regardless of the image score. The maximum number of raw votes required to win a signature annual award is 150, therefore any image that collects 150 raw votes is automatically archived. See this PDF document for an explanation of the three other gates along the way. It is important to know that an image must fail all checks at a gate before it is archived. If it passes any of the checks, it will remain in the voting pool and continue to collect votes.

I thought I was going senile.(sigh of releif). My memory is pretty good its my photos that aren't.

Thanks HappySnaps , Yes You are right. I seem to remember now. only auto archived at 150 Raw votes if below a certain level where they are not able to progress to win an award, I think below a 5 average rating or something.

Unless something has changed that I am unaware of, the only images that are auto archived are the ones that are not rating a high enough average to be competitive.
You might have gotten that impression because of the automatic 150 votes that some images received because they were archived before some change in the rules (I think it was upping the amount of votes required to win awards). To be fair to the images that had been archived before a certain date, they were automatically given 150 votes.

That's right...the image in question can receive no more votes. Since my shot "busy bee" can't receive any more votes and his score is higher than mine....he beats me. I cannot overtake him.

Now...I see several other shots that can possible beat him (the shot in question). However, I don't believe the will get enough votes (150 needed to qualify for annual) in time for the June 16 cut off date.

I don't realy get what you are saying. As I understand it all images that have collected 150 raw votes are now auto archived. They are then removed from the voting pool but keep the rating they have at this time. The image you are talking about should receive no more votes. (whether lowball or otherwise).

I may be wrong but please correct me if I am.

...with that said, I can almost predict the winner of the next Sig Annual Award. A quick survey will show that one of those top 92 has a significant lead over the rest and it is archived, meaning it's score won't go down or up.

IMO, looking at how many votes images usually get on a monthly basis, I feel that this image "can't lose" unless some high ranking sig voters (that haven't voted on that image yet) vote that image 8 or below. I feel that the other images that are "close" will not have enough time to gather the additional 30 - 40 votes needed to qualify for the 150 vote minimum in time for June 15.

My shot of busy bee is OUT of the competition because the image I mentioned above has a higher score, has the 150 votes and is archived. Since my bee is archived, It can't "overtake" the leader!

I feel if members vote fairly, the image I'm talking about should walk away with the prize!!!

....I wonder if they know who they are!!!.......

Annual Award Question

Hello,

I was going over the high rated images to see which one may win the Sig annual award. There are some with over 150 votes that are archived. The images in question are nearly 2 years old. They also have an "n/a" when you look at the "date of the last vote".

Are these particular images eligable for the June Sig Annual?
