I think we have successfully completed a transition to a better system.
The buffer increase of several weeks ago has been beneficial. The 200 image buffer on "individual category" voting and the 500 image buffer on "all category" voting has refreshed the randomness and variety of users expressing their opinion on individual images.
While the most active voters continue to have the opportunity to express their opinions on newly uploaded images, it is not always the same few who cast the first votes. That's a good thing, as it is better to have a variety of opinions on images. Sometimes, the most active voters cannot reach a specific image until 20 or 30 votes from others have accumulated. By that time, an out-of-range vote (high or low) will be simply an outlying vote with much less impact on the score.
Net result is.... the opinions of active voters with a different voting scale than the site average have proportionally less impact on the early fate and rating of an image. It seems to be a more fair and objective voting system. I really like the idea of receiving a representative sampling of opinions from the membership. We can thank the buffer sizes for this contest improvement.

| Its too bad though that we can't get votes faster. In certain cases, while the people voting first are not the same, those people eventually come. LOL!
