Okay could you all give me your opinions on this one as is...

I know there is much I could do in PS...But I do like the natural setting look and wish not to pick off all of my other buds just for one.....so how is the quality of this image...

And you can also tell me what you would do with it if it were yours but I am hoping to get opinions on quality and issues...thanks a bunch .

I like the image. Just so you know I looked at it in all THREE gamma settings. PC looked the best in terms of brightness. The background was separated from the flowers well using that setting.

I think I might actually like this image even better if you moved the camera to the right a bit, to show less of that pedal in the left side of the frame and more of the buds/whatever else is there. The partial flowers are a little distracting of the main subject. I will say honestly this isn't one of your best shots notwithstanding being unedited. That being said, I wish I could take flower pics this good. Actually, I may be able to, I just don't have many flowers around here to try on. LOL! Nonetheless, I would probably give this one a 7 as is and I think for the most part, I have rated your images AT LEAST 8 with maybe a 7 or 9 in there here and there.

Thanks a bunch En, I know it is not the best , there are many flowers right now on this plant, I was out this morning trying to gently move a few of the buds and blooms out of the way for a more pleasing comp.

I find it rather tedious on these kinds because if I crop the left there will still be a petal showing ,,I am not that great with PS..so when I attempt to burn or otherwise, I end making a mess of it and then have to do way more than what I had wanted to do..
Oh by the way,,what do you mean by the PC settings? if you could explain further that would be ducky..thanks for your time En!

Hi Tonka,

I really like the main flower, very crisp! The distraction are the petal in the left bottom corner and the large half cut of flower in the background on the top. The rest is nicely separated as a background. I would retake the shot and remove the background (large flower) and move also a little to the left. I think you will get then a perfect shot. At last you can clone out the four black dust corns and the one white spot of the petals.

Have fun taking more shots.

by PC settings I am referring to gamma setting of my monitor. I have a program that allows me to switch between the gamma settings for Mac, PC and sRGB..2.1. Gamma is basically a brightness setting which effects how images will appear on a monitor. This is why I have been banging my head over people seeing what I am seeing. It's different for each platform (by default) and it's different for every monitor (mostly by chance). Uncorrected or uncalibrated monitors will make otherwise decent images look bad or better, depending on the settings. So, we have been through how my friend tells me this is the biggest problem facing photographers in the digital age.

I have been making it a habit to toggle through the three gamma settings when looking at images to give the photographer the benefit of the doubt as to their ability to adjust contrast, brightness, etc. I use the setting that looks the best to me on my calibrated monitor as a reference when voting, critiquing, etc. Although I am sure I am going far above and beyond what most people do before voting on an image, I do think this has a major effect on outcome of the votes in general. I know that the voting page says, "Take into account difficulty, etc." and I wonder how many people actually do that. Probably more than realize that there will be a difference between what I see and what they see because of their monitor not being calibrated with my settings, your settings, etc.

Okay,,
I dont have the program though, not sure if there is something I can do with what I have but..
I know this is an issue and I know what you have been going through..

Sometimes I feel like voters are not seeing what I see either..
I was at mom's house and clicked on this site and let me tell you what a difference there was,,her colors are no where near as bright and vibrant as mine are and so I am surprised totally that she has been kind enough to tell me "nice shot" when I send her links as what I see on her pc makes my pics look like total crap...LOL..

I told her that her pc colors were terrible but when Ichecked her settings they were the same as mine...in the basic windows settings for what is it ..1024 x something?...sorry I dont store these numbers in my memory lol..
Thanks again En

And much appreciated O,, I just got back from shooting even more so hopefully I have found a winner ..
