Hello, my name is Karen and I am new to this site... I just posted a picture called 'from thumbelina's view' in the flowers section. I am looking for some honest, raw critiques and would like some input.. can you guys give me some pointers as to what I need to do to improve my ability as a photographer, as well as tips and insight? I have a Digital Canon EOS 10.10 megapixel... still getting to know it, and have a lot to learn... Thank you for your time, and I will be frequenting this site very often!!!!! Peace ... -

| Hey there! and welcome to DA!! I am a student but if you want it ,,I will gladly give you my opinion... .. Lighting is very important..Cosmos are wonderful subjects imo and I cant wait until mine come up!! I think the light is a bit dark in this pic..there are no interesting highlights here and there is great color in the blooms that is missing. The foliage is just as gorgeous as the blooms on this plant and you may want to give them more of a presence than you do here in this pic..Also I think you could put more flower and less sky in this comp. the sky is a little distracting.. I think focus is good as well as comp. but I suggest you play with angles and shoot at different times of the day..particularly..as I have learned,,early morning and evening.. These are all just my opinion though..and those who frequent the forum are a wonderful help as well..more should follow.. Hope you enjoy and learn as much here as I have!

Welcome to DA Karen!!! I like your POV on this image!! I too, love cosmos, they're so fresh and free and just seem to do their own thing. I may not be able to give technical comments & critique, but I'm always happy to offer my opinion on what I 'see' in the image.... of course the beauty of photography is, everyone sees something different. This photo seems just a tad flat, and I have a difficult time finding a good strong focal point. The one I do find, seems washed out from the brightest part of the sky. I also think the greenery on the right side of the image doesnt add flavor to the composition. More of a distraction, and really doesnt need to be there.Of course this is only my opinion/ no offense to your work. I bet if you had zoomed a little closer to the largest blossom, you would have captured some amazing details. Looking forward to seeing more of your photos!!
