I've seen a few other posts on camera recommendations, but none of them seemed to match what I was looking for ... my apologies in advanced if there is a similar thread somewhere.
I'm looking to buy a new point and shoot camera. Here's my situation/needs ... My husband and I own two cameras (actually three, but that's besides the point); one is a DSLR and the other is a small FujiFilm 440 . The Fuji is on its last legs so we are looking for a replacement. We almost always like to have a camera on us, but there are many times when it doesn't "work" to take the DSLR with us ... which is why we like having a point & shoot as well - yeah the photos aren't as great but better then missing the shot all together. We need/want the camera to be small (like fit in your pocket size). We would like some shooting options, even if it requires menu selections (ie some control over f-stop/shutter or at the very least some shooting modes and ISO). We want some optical zoom (minimum 3x) and a macro option. Also I'd prefer it has an optical viewfinder (better battery life & easier at night).
Any suggestions?

Have you been to the dpreview website? You can specify all your preferences and then it will show you all the cameras that have all the features you specified and you can compare them side by side. Since you really seem to know what you want, that is what I would suggest.

I love my Canon Elph Powershot SD630! It has all the features you had in your post! All my images on here (except for maybe one or two) have been taken with this Elph or a lesser model from a couple of years ago! I LOVE IT!!!
I have been looking at new ones though because my zoom seems to be dodgy and focusing in the wrong place. Check out the Dell website...they are having some good deals on Canon Elphs at the mo!

Thanks! I do use dpreviews ... I don't like the way their feature search is setup - I love the side-by-side camera search and their reviews though, so I was hoping to get a few camera names from the DA group and then further research them on dp.
Glad to hear about the powershot - as it is on my list - and I recommended them to a friend a while back. Just wish canon would get their naming consistent between the continents - sure would make researching easier!

I don't know what your budget is for a P&S but I use a powershot S70. It's getting old now and can be picked up at a reasonable price.
Brief spec. 7 Megapixel 3X zoom shoots in RAW as well as jpeg, optical viewfinder and Macro option. Manual mode as well as scene modes. Also it fits in my pocket. I take it with me when I don't want to carry my DSLR.
Just a thought
