Nothing will probably come of this but I was wondering if thought has ever been made towards a user rating? They have it on e-bay and other various sites I have seen. Something like a rating as to how helpful or destructive the person is. Sometimes I really wish there would be a warning put on some peoples profiles stating that they are people to avoid, just because they are contrary and basically just nasty people no matter what, others I would love to know that they are the people to go to for help because they are willing to listen and help.

Something that says when the person gives feedback they are complete in their descriptions or helpful or offer suggestions or willing to go to extra effort to help out. That type of thing. We couldn't do the warning system because that doesn't go with the spirit of the site even though it would be nice to have just to know it is not worth dealing with a person but I would like to be able to say thanks or this person really helped a lot go to him or her if you need advice. Then have the top people listed on a page for others to view. Kind of like a reward for good citizenship.

In the forums we aren't supposed to list user names so we can't start an "I appreciate this person" thread (I don't think we are allowed to). I just think it would be nice to have a place to nominate people as good, helpful and constructive photographers and good citizens of our on-line neighborhood. Skill is one thing but being a good person also needs to be rewarded.

...which then could be used additionally to add some weight....

If you have a problem with reality, quit taking photos and take up painting

I like the idea and would like hearing ideas of how this could be implemented. One thing that we could do that isn't as good an idea as a user rating but could be a start is shout outs. By this I mean we could go to someones profile page and add a comment such as "I would like to thank Joe Shmoe for his advise on a shoot I just did. He is always so willing to help out and his tips really paid off."

I guess I have to read the rules again because I did not know we weren't suppose to mention members names on the forum. I thought that was just for airing out our dirty laundry or discussing a specific image and mentioning the photographer who took it. Also never to mention images or the photographers who took them if they were still in the voting pool. There are many times I recall members mentioning a name of a member who could help. Once there was even a favorite photographers thread. It started out with famous ones but then several chimed in with their favorite DA photographers. I almost added my favorite DA citizens.

User Rating is a good idea in theory but not sure how it would be managed. I'm sure there would be a lot of disputes. I do think, as Linda has eluded, that a recognition system should be implemented. People that take the time to answer RFCs, vote consistently and fairly, and are helpful should be rewarded in some fashion.
