Can you change to lab mode in elements? You would need to be able to change that. In PS you go to image>mode>lab It is usually set to RGB
After reading you use elements and have the camera and lenses you have, I have a favor to ask and a link to share. I'll pm you later..... I haven't even had my morning cup of coffee yet. I have been getting a the habit of staying up until 4 am.
I'm pretty sure you do not have access to Lab in Elements. I'm not sure if you have acces to it in PSPx2 either but I would love to know. I may have to download the demo to find out. For those of you that do not use Lab mode in your editing workflow it is worth the effort to learn what it can do for you.

Pardon my ignorance but by PSPx2 are you referring to the online version of PS? If so, I don't know if they have it but it would would be great if it did. That way she could get her blue, yellow and dark pink flower colors popping.
Will, I kind of figured you used it for color. I'm the one that comment on one of your images popping. How do you use it for sharpening? The reason I ask is because on of my instructors showed us a way to sharpen in lab but there is another way that uses the same idea but you don't have to switch to lab. You use the luminosity setting in the fade unsharp mask dialog box. Since Elements doesn't have lab maybe it does have the other and. It won't help Tocky's images pop but she might be able to at least use that.

| Linda, you probably know that Lab has 3 channels. 1. Lightness channel, 2. A channel (which is green and red) 3. B channel (which is yellow and blue) You want to sharpen only the textures of an image and not the color so that being said, I convert to Lab and only sharpen on the lightness channel. This eliminates any color artifacts and offers a cleaner look. BTW, I think PSP is Paintshop Pro, not Photoshop.

Oh Paintshop pro, thanks for enlightening me.
The fade unsharp mask works on the same theory. Right after you sharpen with the unsharp mask you go to Edit>Fade Unsharp Mask. This brings up the fade dialog and you choose Luminosity from the mode popup menu and click ok. This applies the sharpening to the luminosity of the photo. and avoids the color channels, and the problems that sharpening the color causes.

| Hi there, this is my first post, very amateur photographer, but as we have been on the road for almost two years now, motorcycle and sidecar for my buddy Spirit, it has been a great hobby. Hobby that however grows and grows and turns into almost an addiction... So, I did skip some of the replies, but the reason I am writing now is because I felt I did not find an answer to an original question, which was, if the photo is not my genre, is it better just not to vote? Just in case... as I will vote honestly with also honest comments... up to my own ability of course. I think a photo talks to the heart and all our senses, such as music or good food... (been a Chef for 40 years... yes... I am nearing 102!!! ). You be well... and I am here with the hopes of learning a lot. Ara & Spirit
