| I really like the concept of this idea. I think most people already take these factors into consideration (at least I hope they do!), but I think making an actual selection will help to ensure that from photo to photo, day to day your voting will retain better consistency. So, the voter benefits. And as to the recipient, they get a little bit better idea of where their photo is weak and where it is good. I may give a photo an 8 and another an 8 but for very different reasons. Do I comment on my votes? Based on my stats, it looks like about 7% of the time I do. I don't use Quick Comments, as I personally don't really like them. I'm fairly certain that I my comment percentage won't change much regardless of the vote method. So, to provide the same amount of feedback, I could comment on each and every picture or I could use a more granular style of voting. I think the granular style would be faster. Now, perhaps something to consider is fewer criteria. Perhaps something along the lines of: Focus 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
Lighting 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
Perspective 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 (includes composition)
Distractions 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 (includes horizons)
Creativity 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 (I personally like creativity better than Unique) Maybe there could be a pilot group that could try something like this out.

Fewer takes up less space too  I think the time it takes to vote will be less once everyone gets used to the order it is in, they will remember the order and be able to click quickly, and the message that a person voted too quickly will not pop up as often.
The pilot group is a great idea.

I'm sorry to throw cold water on this. But, I, for one, will not vote if I have to vote like this. (I'll bet I'm not the only one.) There is another website (DPC) where I vote on images. It's up to me to assess all the good and bad characteristics of an image and condense and distill the eveluation into a "bucket" score. That works for me! A requirement to split out my vote into component parts would not only slow me down, it would totally discourage (prevent) me from ever voting again.

| That's fine, it's just an idea. Not something I'm emotionally attached to, but something that seemed worth trying out. I'm usually game for just about anything, if only to find out I never want to do it again! What I particularly like is that it would give me feedback, which is something I very, very rarely get. Perhaps I just haven't been here long enough to get meaningful feedback, or perhaps it's just that I need to ask... a lot.

Ask a lot! You'll receive many good feedback comments from most. Some people will not respond.... for a variety of reasons. (Sigh!)
But, some of us will offer an honest assessment. I'm close to offering comment for 100% of the requests sent to me. Best for me to respond to rRFC's that are associated with a vote.

What is a bucket score? I am still learning the terms.
Also what if it wasn't mandatory but an option? Like we now have the option of quick voting, text voting, and standard voting? Just a thought.

A bucket score is what everyone is casting today. Take into consideration all the pros and cons of the image and vote an integer between 1 and 10. Each of those scores is a bucket. The refinement of scores comes from many choosing integer buckets.
