What does the term 'underexposed' supposed to mean?

Thanks!

It is when the photosensitive part inside the camera doesn't get enough light and the result is a too dark photo. Either the lens opening was too small (the higher the f stop number the smaller the opening is) or the shutter speed was too fast. If you ever want to read an excellent book on exposure, I recommend Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. He really has a way of explaining things, to make it easier to understand.

Thanks Linda. That's what I thought it was. I'd recently gotten a vote of 5 on a photo and the comment of it being underexposed. Seeing as how the photo wasn't 'unex'd', I thought perhaps here at DA it may have taken on a different meaning.

Thanks again.

When I saw your question, I had a feeling you were going to say what you did. Lots of times when people don't really understand what the term means they will mistakenly think a photo is underexposed when it is not.

Thanks Linda, after that one low vote the photo in question is doing quite well.
