Hi
This shot isn't doing well at the moment and I'd love some feedback.

Happy to withdraw it from the voting pool - please let me know if that's what I should do.
Is it the composition? The sharpness? Would love some feedback and suggestions on maybe how to make this better. Was placed in the Nature category.
Thanks in advance.
Sandy

If I was to give a lower rate to this it wuold have been by saying that..the brown/ black part of the back ground looks as a distraction to me.... Otherwise I think its great....

Nice image Sandy. I'd say the biggest problem is the harsh light. The face of the fly turns almost black compared to the petals of the flowers. This more a failure of the camera, than yourself. But as your tool you should know it's limitations. If you can arrange to go out in the AM before 10, and PM after 4 you'll do better. Also if you can arrange to be in the bright shade, especially with a northern exposure, it's almost like using a huge diffusion filter, except mother nature supplies it. Nice looking compositions for flys and such can be difficult. I'd advise looking at Glynns MANY images of flies for guidance. I have a few that I think look pretty good. It's just a matter of experimenting and finding what you, and then the voter, likes. Good luck.

Thanks very much for the feedback Bhasmang and Walt! Very much appreciated!
I've checked other shots of this that I took at the same time and think this was one of the first and my shooting direction was all wrong. I remember noticing it and adjusting my position and I think a few of the other shots don't have the same problems with the light.
I'll upload and post one below tomorrow and I'd appreciate your thoughts again if you don't mind.
With regards to the time the photos were taken, I usually try and stick by the times you mentioned though on this occassion it was indeed during those times. Mainly because it had been a while since I had some good light.
Camera - I'm delighted with my camera. Sure it's got limitations but most cameras do don't they. Yesterday, I bought another three new lenses for it so I'm hoping they'll help in the areas in which I wanted a bit more.
You certainly do have a lot of photos that look great Walt as indeed are Glynn's and many others besides and it's very helpful to see these winning images as they provide a benchmark for us all.
Really appreciate the feedback, thanks again!
I'm afraid I can't do much with the background Bhasmang - it's a fence and other than crop as much as possible away then think I'm stuck with it. Point taken though - background could have been better. Thanks!
