I'll handle the creation of thumbnails. Don't worry about that. It's okay to upload whatever size images people want to display. But, people should give some consideration to the size of the normal forum window. I think 640 pixel images are just fine. 720 pixel images on the horizonal dimension are about the maximum size to fit in without disrupting the forum window. Wider or taller than 800 pixels will force some people with smaller monitors to scroll to see the entire image and bend the forum window.

Again, just my advice and recommendation. There are no rules, per se.
